Scarfo Jr was made in 1994 along with Joseph “Big Joe” Datello I believe.
The Merlinos had a bad falling out with the Scarfos in 1986. Soon after Scarfo and most the family were taken down in indictments. Scarfo began using his son to pass messages and collect of some of the street tax but by then Joey Merlino, Mike Ciancaglini and their crew were doing their own thing and no longer recognizing Scarfo so they tried to kill Nicky Jr in 1989. They shot him several times but he survived. To get him out of Philly Scarfo Sr. placed him in the North Jersey Crew. Soon after that Nicky Jr was imprisoned for the Freselone operation. By the time he got out Merlino and his Crew had taken over the family and would have clipped Nicky Jr. if he had returned so Scarfo Sr got him transferred and made into the Lucchese family as protection.
Scarfo Jr was acting Captain of the Lucchese Jersey crew until 2007 (for the imprisoned Capra) when he was demoted by the Lucchese ruling panel (Madonna, DiNapoli, Migliore) in favor of Ralph Perna. Joe Perna (all of them hate Jr,, they are good friends with Merlino) drove to tell Nicky Scarfo Jr the news of his demotion and said he was a "motherless fuck" on the way. After being demoted, Scarfo Jr immediately asked to move to Florida which was denied I believe.
Scarfo Jr is a ridiculous earner, look at his most recent indictment. Charged with looting $12 million out of that bank in Texas.

The pernas don't hate nicky jr because of merlino, they hate him because he's not one of them (hence "motherless fuck"), hes a philly guy who's only with them cuz his pop cut a deal with amuso. He'll always be an outsider up there. Him being a skipper for a little bit only pissed them off more. well obcourse theres that, the merlino bit is icing on the cake

Scarfo was made (by Joe DeFede) shortly after he got out of jail in 1994 along with Carlo Tacetta as a favor to their fathers for protection. That's a long time to pass between Halloween '89 and 1994. From what I understand didn't most of the New York guys (I mean it's really only the Genovese that have say in Philly) detest Merlino in favor of Stanfa?

Excerpt from a old news article I stumbled on today:
Investigators were watching Aug. 9 when Ralph Perna and his son, Joseph, met at a diner in the Bronx with DiNapoli.
And authorities were listening minutes later when Joseph called his brother John to tell him that their father had been tapped to replace Scarfo as head of the New Jersey branch of the crime family.
"He's the new captain," Joseph Perna told his brother, adding, "Tomorrow I'm going down to tell the other kid he's demoted."
John, laughing, said, "I bet you're all broken up about that."
The brothers then referred to media reports raising the possibility that Scarfo Jr. might make a move against those controlling the Philadelphia crime family his father Nicodemo once headed.
That was part of the reason he was being demoted, they said.
Two days later, investigators used the GPS hidden in Joseph Perna's Infiniti to track him to a meeting on the Garden State Parkway with Scarfo Jr.

Anyone see his most recent indictment?
http://www.justice.gov/usao/nj/Press/files/pdffiles/2011/Scarfo,%20Nicodemo%20et%20al.%20Indictment.pdf
Anyone have any idea on the status or possible prison term with this one? Actually a fairly complicated white color crime for the LCN.
Wiki: On October 31, 2011, Scarfo was arrested by the FBI for what the agency said was his role in the attempt to take over and embezzle millions of dollars out of FirstPlus Financial Group. Scarfo's wife, Lisa Murray-Scarfo, was also indicted in the scheme, along with alleged Lucchese mob associate Sal Pelullo and several officials of FirstPlus. Scarfo's father and Victor Amuso were named as unindicted coconspirators.[6] Federal authorities said Scarfo and his associates took $12 million from the loan mortgage company and used the money to buy luxury automobiles, houses, a jet aircraft, jewelry, and a yacht they named "Priceless".[69] U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said Scarfo used his proceeds to buy a $715,000 home, $25,000 in jewelry for his wife, a $100,000 Audi automobile, and mortgage payments on a home owned by his ex-wife.[70][71] Fishman also alleged that Scarfo and his associates forced FirstPlus to pay $6 million and give 1.6 million shares of stock to Scarfo and Pellulo in exchange for two companies (Globalnet Enterprises and Rutgers Investment Group) that had almost no value.[70] Prosecutors said they had 7,500 recorded telephone conversations[72] in which Scarfo discussed his illegal activities, including one in which he talked about faked documents to hide his involvement and another in which he boasted of a $36,000-a-month consulting contract for which he performed no work.[73] They said Scarfo earned $450,000 from his consulting contract, which ran from June 2007 to April 2008.[70] While Scarfo's wife was allowed to post bail, federal district court judge Robert Kugler refused to allow Nicky Scarfo, Jr. to post bail because he was allegedly a danger to the community[74] Scarfo asserted in court that he was destitute and could not afford an attorney.[69] U.S. District Magistrate Ann Marie Donio appointed public defender Michael E. Riley for him.[75] Scarfo appealed the denial of bail on December 18,[72] but Judge Kugler denied bail again two days later.[76] The FBI placed Scarfo in solitary confinement in the Special Housing Unit at the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia to protect him from rival mobsters who attempted to kill him in 1989.[73] Judge Kugler urged the government to put Scarfo into the general prison population, per Scarfo's request.[73] [edit]
Should probably ask Mr. Kierney. I guess if you're Italian, you should be in prison. I've read the RICO Act, and I can tell you it's more appropriate... for some of those guys over in Washington than it is for me or any of my fellas here
