Scarface definetly got old after 5 or 6 viewings, but it's still in my top 10 personal favorites. It's a tale of the American Dream, which many kids look for today. Unfortuantely, a lot of the youth are trying to be like Tony and think selling drugs and getting money is everything. It's what it's coming to. -Pat

Don Cardi [/b]I am referring to both. Tony Montana was a gangsta who went from a nobody to a millionare. Scarface (rapper) and many other rappers were born in horrible places and pretty much forced to join a gang and sell drugs or be independent and most likely die. Scarface (rapper) still lives in the ghetto actually. They had him on cribs. His house is in the projects in Baltimore. -Pat

Okay, I idolize Scarface because I am white and poor and moved from house to house from the time I was probably 5 months old. I am also a rapper . It is so stupid. Basically, these rappers are bragging about the fact they were low-life jerks idolize Scarface because that used to be them. That is ridiculous to me and the documentary shouldn't be on there. Someone could get the wrong message, like so many of the "white America" today and think its condoning the behavior. People idolize movies for the wrong reasons. Whatever happened to liking a movie because it was entertaining? Because you liked the way it was made? Isn't that why most movies are made, for the entertainment value?

No one should be "idolizing" these characters from these kind of movies! You are right when you say that we should enjoy a movie becasue it was well made, etc. What I think happens, especially to many young people, is that many people wind up idolizing these characters for all the wrong reasons. This is not a knock on the young people, as I am not generalizing you all, but some are just not mature enough to discern thier feelings for a movie character of this caliber. This is true of some imature older people too. What happens is that I believe that we ALL see a character like Tony Montana taking what he wants in life, and climbing to the top and living in the fast lane. We all would love to be successful in our lives in a short time. People get caught up emotionally with the character sometimes because deep down inside they may feel that they wish that they had the nerve to do and act certain ways to obtain with they want in life at a fast pace. But most of us, when we leave that movie theater realize that we cannot go around stepping all over people, killing, maiming and stealing anything that we wamt. We remember that we must work honestly and hard in life for what we want out of life and should not take short cuts to get thier at the expense of others. This idolizing by these rappers scares me because it sends the wrong message to the young people who idolize the rappers themselves. This is why we should never idolize anyone with fame, whether they are a movie character, or a real life entertainer. As DeNiro told young Collagio in Bronx Tale, and it is definately one of my favorite parts of the movie, that the working man is the tough guy, he gets up day after day to earn a living. Thats a real tough guy, etc. etc. Scarface is a movie character, but if anyone really wants to idolize him for the way that he lived life and for his quick success in America, Don't forget how it all ended for him! That kind of ending of that life is the reality of the story! Don Cardi
Don Cardi Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

Don Cardi. You just described me, when i were younger and saa the movie first time. You are completley rigth with everything you are saying. At the time i saa SF first i simply wasent mature enough to take it as a movie. I looked up to tony and wanted to be like him. Today i see it in a complete difrent way. The working man is no fool, he truely is the real hero. Anyone could kill people and live the easy way. Thats easy for everybody. But getting up at work every morning, now thats what makes a man, a man. So my advise to young people that se Tony as a hero..Forgetaboutit... he was a freaked up psycho doing cocain... is that really the way you wanna end your life.. Not me.
Once i got out...They Pull me back in!!!

i honestly like scarface because it's entertaining. in all honesty it isn't an oscar winning movie. and the acting is all over the top. but that's what's lovable about it. it's like the original star wars movies. they aren't exactly oscar worthy movies, but they sure as hell kept you at the edge of your seat throughout the whole movie.
about looking up to tony: it's rediculus. it's like trying to look up to vito corleone or mike corleone. no doubt they were both terrific people, especially vito, but in they end they killed people for their money. it's blood money. that life is not worth it. i would rather have a small happy home, then a large unhappy one filled with fear and doubt.
thanks for letting me rant. lol
