You seen the documentary on Addio Pizzo? Tremendous film I thought. Talks about Lo Piccolo's and their pizzo list and so forth.

Is that common in sicily, for the wives to get involved if the husbands are locked up or on the run?

Yes. And the reason why is because the women in general have a loyalty to their husbands like a pitbull protecting their turf, and the same unconditional love like they have for their children. If it's something to help their husband or family, they'll do it. Not to mention, they are tough as balls, sometimes moreso than the men.

8 years for a simple extortion?

Geez, that's more time than you'd get here.

Soon as somebody is labeled "boss" over there, everything is heightened and exaggerated. The bosses and families are treated differently than the others.
Plus italy's got a whole motherfuck for a gov't.

No, I never did. I don't doubt it's good though. I don't usually watch those documentaries or youtube bits, unless someone happens to throw one up on here.

Salvatore Lo Piccolo is the guy who was arrested in 2007 and caught with the infamous typed out page detailing "The 10 Commandments of the Mafia". This always intrigued me because I look at these "rules" and compare it with every day life of any man and his daily routine. Sorry for the slight off topic post but here are the "Commandments":

1. No one can present himself directly to another of our friends. There must be a third person to do it.
2. Never look at the wives of friends.
3. Never be seen with cops.
4. Don't go to pubs and clubs.
5. Always being available for Cosa Nostra is a duty - even if your wife is about to give birth.
6. Appointments must absolutely be respected.
7. Wives must be treated with respect.
8. When asked for any information, the answer must be the truth.
9. Money cannot be appropriated if it belongs to others or to other families.
10. People who can't be part of Cosa Nostra: anyone who has a close relative in the police, anyone with a two-timing relative in the family, anyone who behaves badly and doesn't hold to moral values.

I disagree. Maybe the coffee bars and cafes, but not sitting drinking at bars all day long. That's an american thing.

Ok, I watched the clip you posted and it's very good. I'm sure a lot of people would want to see it in it's entirety. I just can't watch these types of documentaries, myself. I do appreciate it very much though. smile

Then we agree. I was just saying as a rule they're not sitting around drinking alcohol all day in bars.

Jimmy...I think somebody on here did post that list from a youtube link once. You're right. It was part of a documentary.

Do these commandments still apply in Sicily. And did these commandments apply in USA? I saw the documentary but some of them I seem wouldnt ever be heard of for the average mobster.

I think that the Ten commandments doc is to see the diference between the American mob and the Italian mob,a lot of rules were overlooked within the US mob(almost every rule)except the women rule but if youre a soldier and the boss likes your girl and you have something against it,you gonna get whacked and a lot of European countires are getting Americanized these days so the rules are slowly but surely fading away. There are less and less mobsters that dont want to be recognized.I think that the calabrian mob is the latest one, thats still loyal at least to some of the rules,my opnion

The Sicilians still pretty much follow these rules. And as far as wanting to be recognized, they don't want it. That's why you never know who's who over there. They're not flashy for the most part and try to draw little attention to themselves.
Even when they're arrested, it takes them a day or two sometimes, to admit who they are to police.
