first i thought Iceman was great - then Murder Machine. Gaspipe is incredible. Cant put it down. Ive been to La Tavola, and to think they closed it down to "break bread" with Gotti/Bull - Gaspipe/Amuso. Midway through this amazing read...

Yes it is a great book. Better than Iceman in my opinion.
Have you read the Butcher, about Tommy Pitera? That is my favorite. i planned on making that my last book, then for some reason chose gaspipe. thanks for confirming what my next read will be.

Hard to believe that anyone liked this book. Begins well but rapidly falls into a chapter by chapter report of various facts or opinions. Really poorly written and certainly not biography or history. Junk! No Stars!
You gonna finish that?

I personally love the Gaspipe book despite a few inaccuracies by the author Yeah. Not to disrespect the dead, but Carlo could be a little sloppy with facts. There were some minor inaccuracies in the Butcher too. And sometimes he amps up the melodrama a little too much. But the books are entertaining.

Bumping this up with a comment about Jimmy Hydell being given a contract to whack Casso....
In my opinion, the attempted murder of Casso seems to have been in retaliation for Gaspipe blowing up Frank Decicco, and his plans to whack John Gotti. Angelo Ruggiero gave the contract, and he was close to Gotti. However, most accounts don't link the attempt on Casso's life with his focus on whacking Gotti, nor with DeCicco's murder.
The popular theory seems to be that Angelo acted alone and without Gotti's knowledge. I find that very hard to believe. Both the DeCicco murder and the attempt on Gaspipe's life occurred in 1986, so the timeline works.
I really enjoyed this book and recommend it.

Why would Gaspipe give the contract to Hydell? he would have picked a made guy to do the hit not Hydell.
We might be talking about two different things here. Angelo Ruggierio (who was a made guy) gave the contract to Hydell. I went back to the book and the title of Chapter 41 is "The Golden Ox Incident: Gotti's Revenge?" The book is, in fact, implying that Gotti may have been behind the order to whack Gaspipe. However, as Beanshooter pointed out, a bad drug deal seems to be the general consensus on why the contract on Gaspipe's life was handed out. In Chapter 44, there is a lunch meeting with Gotti, Casso, Sammy the Bull, and Amuso. Gotti is quoted as saying to Casso, "Problem is, there's all these...rumors out there, about you, about me, and it's easy for misunderstandings to be created...."
