Keeping the old timers in as Capo's is clearly working for them, but what happens when they die, that generation of the family only have about 10-15 years left in them, any up an comers in the family? A large chunk of there soldiers are pretty old too.

By UK standards Glasgow is probably the worst city to live with the rates of crime, poverty and drugs.

The area i live in has gotten alot better since i was akid thanks to council programmes building nice new houses,libraries,youth centres etc to keep kids from joining gangs or whatever which for the most part seems to have worked.

There's still plenty of rough areas though neds/chavs running around stabbing each other etc. There's still a massive heroin problem though which imo is at least partly to do with junkies getting prescribed meth because many of them continue to take smack on top of it. Which part of Glasgow did you visit Nicky?

Pretty much they more or less have a monopoly on the drug trade especially the Daniels who're the only Scottish gang who deal with the big players in London like the Adams most of the drugs come up from Liverpool and Torquay though. You'll see outlying estimates in some articles and reports from time to time but the most consistent figure is approximately 200 members. That was the figure cited by the feds as recently as the 2007 indictment against Danny Leo.

Incidentally, the feds also cited approximately 200 members in the Gambino family in the 2010 indictment against Danny Marino.

The 5 NY families apparently have a fixed max number of members they can have. For the Genovese and Gambinos, it seems to be a little over 200. For the Luccheses, Colombos, and Bonannos, it seems to be a little over 100. Of course, the membership can be inflated by skirting the rules. If I remember right, Joseph Corozzo and either Sal Vitale or Vinny Basciano (I can't recall which) blamed each other for making up names to be replaced in order to make more guys.

actually it was the other way around, he would look up names in the phone book and pass them off as deceased bonanno members and thus that would be a reason for them to make a new guy to replace that "phone book deceased" member
