I havent seen alot of De Palma's work (Mission to Mars and The Untouchables) but what Ive seen I honestly dont really like. I found the Untouchables incredibly cliche (maybe due to the time it was made -I dont know), and I honestly didnt like it. And Mission to Mars which wasnt too bad, but has terrible moments (the read out on Tim Robbins' wifes electronic suit display reads "point of no return" when shes rocketing through space to save him rolleyes . I mean come on. I understand this is a just a 'movie-ism' but great films dont have them or need them.

So is Scarface different? I will be checking it out this week, but am curious to know if its consistent with De Palma's other work.

Cheers.

I find Scarface to be a great film, with one of Pacino's best performances, and it was an overrall great effort from DePalma. (****/5) Carlito's Way is arguably better than Scarface, and with Penn adding a great performance to Pacino's usual greatness, this film is also excellent. (****/5) Though I do think that Scarface is immensley overrated, it is still very good.

Hey, how's it going?

Scarface is great, Carlito's Way is very good, and The Untouchables is horrible aside DeNiro.

As for other films I've seen, Carrie is a decent, but overrated horror film.

I agree. DeNiro's scenes were the only ones worth watching.

Scarface, IMO, is the most entertaining of these films.

As for Untouchables, yes the DeNiro scenes are what made that movie, no question about it. But you must admit that Sean Connery was no slouch in that movie. He also acted great. My favorite line from him in that movie is " Just like a whop, brings a knife to a gun fight." lol

Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

^^i agree that Scarface is the most entertaining out of them, hell, i think it's the most entertaining movie ever and the most fun to watch.

i loved Carlito's Way tho and it's right up there with Scarface if you ask me. The Untouchables is in a whole other league, it's a nice mainstream flick but it isn't a gangster movie like one would expect. sure, Connery does a great job but i don't want to see him in such a movie, neither do i want to see Costner. I don't like Andy Garcia's role and the parts of De Niro are too short so he can't really carry the movie.

It seemed to me that Scarface was a sort of cliched B-movie that just ended up falling togethor in the right way that it some how came out half way decent.

I try to just appreciate it for Pacino's performance, because without him it would've been written off as a ultra-violent drug movie and nothing more. I personally did hate the Untouchables because of its Spielbergian hollywood-ness, and some of the most horrible use of music I think i've ever witnessed.

Carlito's Way, in my opinion, is De Palma's best film by far. It seems as though he has finally mastered exactly how to make the camera work how he wants it to, he and Pacino seem to flow seamlessly togethor, and Sean Penn and Penelope Ann Miller don't hurt. Plus great music, convincing action, etc. etc.

In the end I would say...

- appreciate Scarface for what it is, but don't make it out to be a great film
- avoid the Untouchables like the devil
- see Carlito's Way multiple times

I dream in widescreen.

Well, I'm surprised that many of you haven't actually seen DePalma's real gems besides CARLITO'S WAY or SCARFACE.

I mean his so-called Hitchcock-esque thrillers that run from pretty decent to pretty damn good.

BLOW OUT of course is almost legendary to many movie fans, while DRESSED TO KILL and FEMME FATALE were really good, and stuff like OBSESSION and BODY DOUBLE were solid.

Check them out folks!
