Was Giuseppe "Joe the Clutch Hand" Morello born with that one fingered hand? anyone know?

I'm writing a story with a character based on Morello who has one hand (His was chopped off by the Camorra in my story). However I was thinking of making it a deformity he was born with f that was the case with Morello

yes I am writing a fictional crime book that's partially based on history set in the early 1900s.
I love this time period, moustaches and barrel murders and whatnot.
No name yet, still in the planning stages. I will probably post about it on here if anyone's interested.

That place was a New York institution, Ivy. 21st Street and Fifth Avenue. It was kind of like a precursor to NBO or Mens Wearhouse. Decent suits for a reasonable price. But George still would have been too cheap to shop there lol.
