Dixie Mafia is an term used to describe any networks/crews/enterprises in the South.The name was originally used to described a group in Biloxi, Mississippi.

A central 'mafia'? No, there never was one actually.
Criminal groups formed in the roughest trailer parks of Mississippi or Texas? Yeah, lots of them probably. And don't let the word 'trailer park' throw you off. Criminals coming from these places can often be very organized and ruthless. Examples exist all over Europe too. In the Netherlands clans coming from the trailer parks often are the major indigenous criminals. The same can be said for France.

I know trailer parks sound ridiculous, yeah. But Dutch trailer parks have long been a breeding ground for organized crime. 'Kampers' ( as they call the Dutch people living in these parks) are really a serious bunch, as funny as it sounds. The clan Van Wesenbeeck for instance belong to the top of European's crime barons.
The same can be said for the French gypsy camps. French Gypsies like the Hornec brothers are infamous names in European organized crime. Last year you had the Bengler brothers from Marseille doing some major and crazy stuff, mostly involving Kalashnikovs. They were Manush ( French Sinti gypsies).

It's Mississippi and no they weren't the trailer park types as a whole group.
