Came across this article in a newspaper from 1915. A chopped up body was found wrapped up and disposed of in a marsh near Coney Island (modern Bay 50th street). The article says that the body parts were wrapped in Italian-language newspapers. That area was being filled in at the time, so it would seem like the perfect dumping ground for some old Mustache Pete.
