No, it's not about Sgt. Pepper.

But do any of you remember the Blizzard of '93 that paralyzed the Northeast on 3/13/93?

The night before, my wife and I headed up to Wilkes-Barre from Harrisburg as I was scheduled to select a jury there that we'd be bringing back to Harrisburg the following week. A change of venire was ordered due to local publicity surrounding this death penalty case.

I was able to visit my client in Luzerne County Prison where he was being held temporarily and then went to my in-laws where I was staying with my wife, who was seven months pregnant at the time. We were actually planning to attend the Scranton St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Well, the snow started slowly Friday evening and by daybreak we were looking at a full blown blizzard. My father-in-law and I spent the day shoveling as he closed his restaurant early. He brought an ample supply of meats, cheeses, rolls and pasta sauce to get us through the day and night.

Things didn't get back to normal until a few days had passed. I checked into a hotel Sunday night near the courthouse while my wife returned to Harrisburg. The judge was in Barbados, planning to return to Harrisburg Sunday and get to Wilkes-Barre Monday morning, but the airport closings delayed her arrival and we didn't get to start jury selection until St. Patrick's Day.

yes, i remember it well. we had the entire week of school off, and on top of the snow we had a few inches of freezing rain that left a crust that we were able to walk on. our cat was out in it for almost a week, and we thought for sure it had frozen to death, but the stupid thing came wandering back like nothing was wrong. the coating of ice made the sledding great also. i do remember more snow in 96' though.

It's either blue cheese with wings or go fuck yer mudda!

We actually just watched a family video of that day a few weeks ago. We couldn't open our front door because the snow had drifted that high.

She was well tanned when she got to Wilkes-Barre. After the first night she joined my co-counsel, her clerk, the DA and me in the hotel bar for a St. Patrick's Day drink.
