I guess that many of you here are godparents.
Do you have any stories about it?
Cross-denomination-godparenthood?

I start with a strange one: As some of you have guessed correctly, I'm atheist, as most people in my home town. A Russian friend of mine invited me once to the baptism of his child, "because we've been friends for such a long time". I agreed to visit the baptism. Then, at the catholic church, when the priest asked the godparents to stand up, please, everybody was looking at me. It was like in a dream. I got up. I and the godmother were told to answer the questions ("Do you renounce satan?", etc.) in our minds.
I felt like in the wrong movie. I felt that there was some disrespect in that act: To my own convictions, but even more to the Catholics in the room. But at the same time, I didn't want to spoil the ceremony by saying that I wasn't a Catholic.
Later I heard that the priest must have known something. He was very old and the only one in that area who would baptise the child of a catholic mother and an orthodox father (who in fact is atheist too.)
