China has been flexing its muscles all over the place. But it never would have tried this if it hadn't (correctly?) made the calculation that India is too weak to respond. This is exactly the move Barzini made on the Corleones. rolleyes Time will tell whether India has the leadership to make China regret this move.

NEW DELHI — The platoon of Chinese soldiers slipped across the boundary into India in the middle of the night, according to Indian officials. They were ferried across the bitterly cold moonscape in Chinese army vehicles, then got out to traverse a dry creek bed with a helicopter hovering overhead for protection.

They finally reached their destination and pitched a tent in the barren Depsang Valley in the Ladakh region, a symbolic claim of sovereignty deep inside Indian-held territory. So stealthy was the operation that India did not discover the incursion until a day later, Indian officials said.

China denies any incursion, but Indian officials say that for two weeks, the soldiers have refused to move back over the so-called Line of Actual Control that divides Indian-ruled territory from Chinese-run land, leaving the government on the verge of a crisis with its powerful northeastern neighbor.
Indian officials fear that if they react with force, the face-off could escalate into a battle with the powerful People’s Liberation Army. But doing nothing would leave a Chinese outpost deep in territory India has ruled since independence.

“If they have come 19 kilometers into India, it is not a minor LAC violation. It is a deliberate military operation. And even as India protests, more tents have come up,” said Sujit Dutta, a China specialist at the Jamia Milia Islamia university in New Delhi.

“Clearly, the Chinese are testing India to see how far they can go,” he said....

China pushes India

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

Always fun and games going on in the world eh? Let the 2 new "superpowers" butt heads as much as they want, they might forget to stop making everything the world uses and let our manafacturing industry come alive again whistle

This could prove a disaster for the Indian economy. US companies that have outsourced so many jobs to India may not be so happy with their decisions if the Indians start butting heads with the Chinese.

honestly, i would be much more worried about an india/pakistan conflict, probably the most likely modern day scenario in which we might witness a massive nuclear exchange. there was a great documentary made by vice for their new hbo series that went into a bit of detail about the conflict. it covered the some of the politics regarding the disputed kashmir region, and discussed the provocateur attempts by pakistan to destabelize india, and how close the somewhat recent mumbai terror attacks were in pushing an all out war between the 2 countries. apparently, it was stated that if 100 nuclear warheads(depending on kilotons) were detonated in rapid succession, it very well might be the end game for all of us!

North Korea I can't take seriously as a threat, an opinion which a majority of Americans recently polled share with me.

This shit though, now that's scary. I doubt it'll go over into war because you know, nukes. Hell over a decade ago, India and Pakistan almost went to war again. But they didn't because you know, nukes.

I must agree with right-wingers and 3rd world piss-ant tyrants who want nukes: Nukes are a good deterent to war.
