De Niro for Mafia role for thriller Independent.ie May 20, 2013The Oscar-winning star is tipped to play Mafia kingpin Carlos Marcello in the big-screen adaptation of Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann's book of the same name, reported Showbiz411.com. Leonardo DiCaprio is already on board to produce the film (through his Appian Way company) and star as FBI informant Jack Van Laningham. He becomes the confidant of Robert's character in a secret undercover operation, leading to his confession about ordering the assassination of then US President John F Kennedy. Jack Van Laningham's son Craig also revealed at the Cannes Film Festival that David is attached to write and direct the movie. David has already reunited with De Niro's Silver Linings Playbook co-stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence for his next film American Hustle, which is filming in Boston. He can probably nail down the "cajon-wop" accent. But Carlos was pretty chunky towards the end, be interesting how they'll pull that off.

He did a pretty good job with his southern draw in Cape Fear. I agree with you but southern draw and Cajun are two totally different languages to me. Anyone can prolong the word "Y'allllll" but the Cajun accent down here is downright dirty

If you have never spent time in LA you'll never understand true Creole. Took me years to learn it!
