237 years and still here. Happy Birthday USA. In the words of Lee Greenwood; "I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free." Its been a rocky road, Civil Wars, protests, changes upon changes, but we're still here. Somehow American Democracy survives and prevails. For all its flaws and foibles, American democracy has survived 237 years. Not a bad record.
1976, 200th anniversary; I was in Washington DC. The parade Grand Marshall was Johnny Cash. How cool is that.

I feel like dancing around like James Cagney. " I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy....." Having everyone at my house today and we'll be going to the pool for a while. I expect it'll be jam packed but then again, maybe everyone is going somewhere today. Anyway, Happy Fourth of July to my American buddies. Stay safe and enjoy your day. TIS

I hope everybody celebrated the fourth happily and safely. I spent tuesday in nearby Gettysburg with my kids. There are always big happenings there this time of year, but these past few days marked the 150th anniversary of the Battle. It was a busy place, but at one of the information tents we got to meet John Griffiths, the great great-grandson of Pres. Ulysses Grant. He was in his 70s and in uniform with a white beard, much longer than his gret great-grandpa. He had a squeaky voice, but spoke with a great deal of pride about his ancestor fighting to save the union and end slavery.
I spent yesterday surrounded by family, good neighbors, friends, and good food. I'm kind of blowing off work today and stretching the weekend.

Hope all my US pals had a great day and are enjoying their holiday weekend I thought of you. Yogi, when I downed a few cold bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale at a party on Saturday night. I've drank New Castle Brown Ale before I just can't remember where

I am hoping every person recognized your fourth happily and also correctly. My partner and i expended tuesday throughout close by Gettysburg together with the kids. You will always find huge incidents presently there this time around of the year, however, these previous times designated the 150th wedding anniversary from the Struggle. We may have crossed paths on that tuesday. Just watched a very good show about the famous battle. A place I would very much like to visit one day. Can I stay at your house Klyd? Need to visit some new historic sites, getting sick of all the ruined castles in north east England that the Scots have ruined over the centuries
I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees!

My wife was not invited to the baby shower so we are not hanging out with Wills and Kate any more!!! Personally, I find that family to be a royal pain in the ass.

Apart from the obvious aspects of tourism, they don't really bring much to the table as far as I am concerned. Old Queenie does a grand old job for her age but the rest of them???
