Carmine has been running the Columbo family from prison since 1986. Sure seems the BOP could limit his communication enough to prevent this. Also seems this allegation would have him housed in high security instead of medium? I am sure he communicates through family/lawyers but seems maybe the feds don"t want a new boss??

Why would they, his leadership has minimized their once strong family to the weakest of the 5 families. The smartest thing law enforcement can do is continue to let him ineffectively preside over everything

Heres a quote from selwynn rabb's five families about persicos rule from prison.

" Persico's attempts to protect his own position and ensure that his son succeeded him nearly destroyed the Colombo family. By Raab's estimate, Persico's "deceitful schemes" led directly to 70 of his wiseguys and associates being sent to prison, as well as 12 deaths."

I've asked this before, how come some young buck or some young crew haven't just sent word "that you're out old man and your son too" and just taken the reins.

Because i dont think anyone in the family wants another war, and persico still has a lot of relatives on the street that are loyal to him, the current street boss mush russo is carmines cousin i think.

He has pretty much been running the family from jail since 1973. Even before he went away for good in 1986 the guy was always locked up. Hands down the worst boss ever. He has violated one of the major commandments of the mafia. He has put himself and his personal family ahead of his crime family. The repercussions of this have destroyed the Colombo family. He knows as long as he retains the title of Boss the money will keep going to his family and his relatives on the streets will still be in control. I cannot understand why Colombo guys have allowed this to go on for 27 years.

Well the one colombo guy that tried to end carmines reign, orena, started a war that got a decent amount of people killed and a lot more guys put in prison. So after that carmines position as boss was cemented again. Nowadays everyone in the family knows that another war would completly destroy the family.

Yea makes no sense.best thing for the colombos would have been if the gallos had killed persico during the first war.but yea something has gotta give.it'll probably be a cousin or something that does kick him to the side

One of the posters on another forum made a list of Carmine Persico's real family members that are either made men or associates of the Colombo Family. The list is about 30 or 40 people. Including Vic Orena and his all his kids. Also, Andy "mush" Russo and his kids. As long as Carmine is alive, he will have one of his real family members as the acting boss. When Carmine Persico dies, his son Little Allie Boy will probably take over as official boss (if he hasn't already). The Persico faction will be around for a while IMO.

There hasn't been a confirmed Commission meeting in almost 13 years (and even then it wasn't all bosses). Is it even functioning anymore?

And what would forcing him out do? A relative from his faction would step into the power vacuum and with a bone to pick with other families for interfering. Maybe the other families are playing the same game as the Feds, leaving Persico alone to destroy the family so they can pick up the scraps of what's left.

You can not run a crime family from a prison. His name is big, if he was more of an unknown they would not say he is still running things. Columbo's are primarily in Brooklyn, Persico has been in various maximum security prisons far from there. Mail and phone calls monitored, visitors very limited. It is impossible.

They have less restrictions on them. Once they ind out they are doing they crack down, take away privileges such as visits. Maybe they don't run things a much as we are told? Those gangs are more one-dimensional, and are not as organized anyway.

My point is that even from prison it's possible to have some kind of command and control, these gangs, even if not as clever or as organized as "traditional OC" (and that's debatable) seem to do a pretty good job on command and control even though half or more of their leadership is locked up in supermax SHU units.

And you're flat-out wrong that Persico is held under more restrictions than those gangs, Carmine is doing his bid at FCI Medium (security) Bulter in North Carolina. The guy reportedly socializes with Bernie Madoff and plays Bocci with other imprisoned mobsters. He is not in high-security.

A boss like Percisco doesn't have to have day-to-day communication to run things. As long as he calls the final shots on big decisions and his authority is recognized by people on the street, he is still effectively boss.

He wants to keep it in his fam whats the big thing ,he totally put alot in Ally , Ally let him down ,there are other people in the fam that will come up and run the fam right ,they r smart young but he is waiting .The guy that are out and the ones that r getting out soon will help the others if the young guys can take it slow and not get tripped up in drugs or something stupid for a quick buck. From what i see they are laying back being groomed you have not herd any of there names .The money is still rolling in not like before but it is .If they able to hold this for 5to8 years they have a shot of being stable .no drugs ,no wars ,
