I think you mean Angelo DeFendis. He was an ex-boxer and Lucchese thug in Gaspipe's crew. This is from Capeci's Gangland column in 1995:
Another ex-pug, Luchese mobster Angelo Defendis, threw in the towel and pleaded guilty to extortion charges stemming from a one-punch knockdown over a contractor who was reluctant to fork over a $25,000 pay-off. DeFendis, a 1953 Golden Gloves middleweight champ and a 1957 contender for the light-heavyweight crown and cohort Nicholas (Fat Nicky) DiCostanza face 18 to 24 months on sentencing day later this month. It's not all bad, though. The feds agreed not to object that Defendis postpone serving his prison term until after his only daughter marries in June.
