Just to make clear, him attending NU high school is according to D´Amico´s friend Irving Hershkowitz. I don´t know if he grew up in Bensonhurst but I would assume he did IF he went to that school.

Garofalo´s crew was active in Bensonhurst but also, it was active in Lower East Side, Manhattan. By "active" I mean where they hung out.

The Gambinos had a bigger presence downtown than they're given credit for on these boards. People forget that Piney and Old Man Stevie were fixtures down there. Not to mention the Giordanos and the guys who came up with them

And it's exactly the opposite with the Westside guys. Their power base was always in Manhattan, so everyone assumed they had no presence in Brooklyn. Well, that was bullshit, too.

Allie, Punchy, Albert, and all those guys were Brooklyn based. Were they as big in Brooklyn as the Gambinos? No, but they were still there.

The west side has a presence in every borough. They had a very active crew in williamsburg brooklyn. I also think Rosario Gangi was a brooklyn guy.

Of course. That was my entire point. Just because their presence wasn't as visible in Brooklyn as the Gambinos, that doesn't mean they weren't there. But the Genovese power base was always in Manhattan. Uptown to be more specific (and that crew eventually evolved into the current Bronx/Westchester faction, where the power base remains). Vince was the exception, but Benny loved him---and Benny was an uptown guy.
