Here's pretty much the entire part on the Gotti-Scarfo meeting.
In early 1986, Scarfo and Leonetti paid their respects to John Gotti as the new boss of the Gambino Family. In their initial meeting, Scarfo apprised Gotti of the problems caused by the Gambino brothers in his area and specifically cited the beatings at the Deptford Tavern
In approximately December of 1985, John Gotti, a member of the Gambino Family, had Paul Castellano killed and then took over as boss. A short time later, Gambino member Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano travelled to Atlantic City to meet with Scarfo and Leonetti. They met Gravano at a bar, known as Angelo’s Fairmount Tavern, on Fairmount and Mississippi Avenues. Gravano told Scarfo and Leonetti that Gotti, as the new boss of the Gambino Family, would like to meet them. Scarfo told Gravano that he would also like to meet Gotti and that he would make contact with Joe Farinella to schedule a meeting. Scarfo and Leonetti then contacted Farinella in Trenton shortly afterward and made arrangements to meet with Gotti. A month or so after Gotti became boss, Scarfo and Leonetti met him for the first time. The meeting took place in approximately January or February of 1986 at a town house in Staten Island that was owned by a brotherin- law of Gravano’s. Other members of the Gambino Family who were at the meeting were Gravano, Frank DeCicco, Joseph “Joe” Gallo, Angelo Ruggiero, Joe Farinella and Joseph “Joe Butch” Corrao. Scarfo and Leonetti were the only members of the Scarfo Family who went to the meeting. One of the areas discussed were the problems that the Scarfo Family was having with the Gambino brothers and their associates, including the incident with Sal Gambino at the Deptford Tavern. Gotti said that he was sorry that the incidents occurred. Shortly after Scarfo’s and Gotti’s first meeting, a sit-down was convened when a Gambino Family associate brandished a gun and threatened a Scarfo Family member in a fight over a woman at a Cherry Hill bar. Leonetti narrated the facts that prompted the sit-down over the persistent problems with the Gambinos: Within a month or two of the first meeting with Gotti, another problem occurred with the Gambino group from the southern New Jersey and Philadelphia area. It involved Emanuel “Matty” Gambino, who was friendly with John, Joe and Sal Gambino. Matty Gambino, who lived in the southern New Jersey area, was somehow related to the Gambino brothers. He and Philip Narducci had an argument over a woman at a Cherry Hill bar, known as Franchin’s. Gambino made threatening remarks and pulled a gun on Narducci. Narducci was a La Cosa Nostra member in the Scarfo Family and Gambino was an associate in the Gambino Family. After the incident took place, Narducci went to see Leonetti in Atlantic City at the office of Scarf, Inc., to tell him what had happened. They took a walk outside while Narducci, who was accountable to Leonetti at the time, explained the situation. When Leonetti told Scarfo about the incident, Scarfo was furious. Around March of 1986, Scarfo and Leonetti again met Gotti at the Staten Island town house of Salvatore “Sammy The Bull” Gravano’s brother-in-law. Gotti had Joe Farinella contact Scarfo and Leonetti to arrange a second meeting because Gotti wanted to further discuss the problems with the Gambino brothers and their associates. Scarfo and Leonetti were the only members from the Scarfo Family who attended the sit-down. The Gambino Family members that attended the first meeting with Gotti were the same members who were present for the second meeting. The meeting resolved the issue to Scarfo’s satisfaction: Scarfo and Leonetti explained to Gotti what Matty Gambino had done to Narducci. Scarfo then told Gotti that he was so angry that he wanted Matty Gambino killed. The incidents regarding Sal Gambino’s actions at the Deptford Tavern...[was] also brought up again. Scarfo told Gotti that he was tired of all the problems caused by the Gambino brothers and their associates. Gotti apologized for the problems and asked Scarfo to give him a little more time to take care of the situation. Gotti indicated that since he had only been boss of the Gambino Family for a few months, he needed time to get things in order. Gotti said that if he couldn’t straighten out the situation, then he would have Matty Gambino killed. After the meeting with Gotti, the Scarfo Family never had any more problems with the Gambino group from the southern New Jersey and Philadelphia area.

I could be thinking of the Decavalcantes but I thought there was a beef where the Gambinos were making guys from Philly or the philly territory and Scarfo wanted to put an end to it.

Scarfo having an issue with the Gambino's encroaching on philly's south jersey territory was the least of Gotti's problems. The Genovese family wanted all the south jersey rackets after Bruno was killed in 1980. Because of the Gambino's trying to go after south jersey, the Genovese ( bobby manna) wanted gotti killed. Part of it was due to the unsanctioned hit of Castellano, but mostly due to south jersey. Had it not been for an fbi bug in a genovese controlled restaurant that resulted in the arrest of Manna and part of his crew, both john gotti and his brother gene would have been dead. That crew didnt fuck around, they were serious guys.

In Leonetti's book Mafia Prince he talks about how Gotti and Gravano told them of the plot to kill Paul. But I just can't see them saying that to them when they told all others that it was a family issue and they would deal with the killers.
Any input to the meetings?

I have a question. Were the luchese's not strong enough down in Margate/AC (Abate, Acceturro, etc.,) or not in the right place at the right time when Scarfo made the connection with Gerace and Local 54, and the rest of the unions??
I gather that The commission had to give him some insight into union control because the concrete club was running the same time Philly LCN took over A.C (Atlantic CIty) casino construction? Prior to, Local 30 was under Bruno's control, so it's not like Philly LCN was completely new to unions.
But, more to my question, I read all the philly books out there so I understand the connection with Bruno/Gambino and Scarfo/Manna/Chin. I also know that Abate turned over control to Acceturro in the late 1970s but I can't imagine Tony Ducks Corrallo and Abate sitting back and letting the Chin pull all the strings. Were the Genovese that strong?? To fend off Luchese, Gambino, etc.?? Did they take control of the commission because of the Scarfo alliance??
@Philly Mob - I read leonetti's book a couple times. I don't remember him saying that Gravano told him PRIOR to the killing. I think it was after. I recall the book saying that Gotti Told Scarfo (paraphrasing) "I got commission approval on paul" And Scarfo saying "I'm sure you did, John". and he knew it was BS.

Yea I was talking about after the hit already happen. It just seemed weird that the Gambino's told all families that they would take care of the problem with Big Pauly's murder and find the people responsible. But yet they told the Philly family that they were the ones that murdered Pauly. Maybe I'm missing out on something or misread. Please help lol.

I have/had this fascination with the Scarfo era for a while because that's what I grew up with. I remember not being allowed off the school bus because my neighbor was being arrested by the swat/FBI team. It was nuts.
But after reading the books, I think Phillip Leonetti and Nicky Scarfo were out of their minds. Maybe Gotti just told them because the Bull was close with them and he told Gotti they could be trusted. Like the above post, these guys were doing murdering "Favors" for each other. SHit, Gotti was so full of himself that he probably told Scarfo to brag. Like when your cat kills a mouse or bird and leaves it on the doorstep for you to see.

Nick : Margate was built up by then, just a couple low rises were built after 1978.
Don't know what NY was thinking. But the first 3 or so were hotels that were already standing. It went into full swing when chicken man was boss cos he had Nicks back and Nick had his. Then we all know what happened to that. Nicky sr had a firm grip on everything down here before he was boss. Then he became the boss. This all happened so fast. And the time frame worked out perfect for them. I Don't think anyone pushed back on him . That's when the building boom really hit.
I think this is how it went , Resorts was built back in the day, Caesars was a Howard Johnson's ,Claridge was built back in the day,So by this time Nick was the man.I think the first casino that they could have had a hold on from bottom to top was playboy, Then all the hotels were new ,and getting bigger and bigger.$$$$$$$ Also the mayor was a guy that was around often. And his kids also were friends of friends of us in A.C. This was just all perfect timing for them .
