tenbenny is a real good movie no one i know has seen. adrien Brody early in his career. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114008/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1also i loved trees lounge, i think written and produced by steve buscemi, sort of about his life on long island before acting. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117958/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1these may not be obscure but no one i know of has seen these. also like hurlyburly, used to be a play but went to the screen with chazz, kevin spacey, sean penn, robin wright, gary shandling, and anna paquin. great dialogue. very transcendent http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119336/?ref_=nv_sr_1anybody seen these or please drop your fave obscure movies...i always like to find new things things to do in denver when youre dead i liked, not obscure i guess

throw something out there PB...and not an obscure Cagney movie from 1932 MADE IT MA! Okay, how about the '70s? "The Seven Ups," with Roy Scheider. Best car chase scene EVER. "The Lords of Flatbush," Stallone, Fonzie and a young John Gotti (I mean Armand Assante ).

I always liked that line from Stallone (paraphrase) "He's the guy whose gonna tell me to beat you up." I also like City Across the River about the Amboy Dukes. I remember reading and liking the novel.

"True Confessions," with Robert DiNiro, Robert Duvall, Charles Durning and Rose DeGregorio, is the most underappreciated great movie of the Eighties. Seconded; I wrote about that here.

"The Lords of Flatbush," Stallone, Fonzie and a young John Gotti (I mean Armand Assante). Fun movie. I always thought that Perry King (one of the Lords) was the best actor of the bunch. THe scene in which Stallone threatens the jewelry store owner was absolutely hilarious. What I liked most, though, about the movie was that my brother's best friend played the part of Mike Mambo, the guy in the pool hall (from the Avenue J gang).

That's the first movie I ever saw actor David Proval. OK, mentioning David Proval and thinking of obscure movies, I am reminded of a wonderful little movie - "Nunzio". It stars Proval as a slightly retarded (sorry, no pc) kid who likes to dress up as a superhero. If it ever comes around on tv you guys MUST watch it.

Many years ago, Proval dated a friend of mine from Lawrence, Long Island. She told me he's a really sweet and down to earth guy, and a very devout Jew who will often turn down good money to film on Jewish holidays (as I type this, I'm reminded of Sandy Koufax's refusal to pitch on Yom Kippur). You have to respect that, no matter what your faith .

I friended him on Facebook when he first took an account there and had a few conversations with him. He DEFINITELY appears to be down to earth!!! Now, speaking to you, pb, and in this thread, I'm reminded of another good movie which fits here - "Bloodbrothers" starring Richard Gere. Paul Sorvino plays Gere's uncle and Tony LoBianco plays his dad and both of them were absolutely awesome in this movie about an Italian family in the Bronx. If you've never seen it you MUST get it somewhere!!

If you've never seen it you MUST get it somewhere!! I've seen it, SC. I'm a huge fan of Richard Price, who wrote the book. Price also gave us one of our other favorites in "The Wanderers." But back to "Bloodbrothers," and why that book resonates with me. In the novel, the character of Stony (played by Gere in the film) graduated Mount Saint Michael in 1975. I graduated the Mount in 1977. And being that the entire book was set in Co Op City, it hit that much closer to home. What I'm saying is, read the book. It's back in print: http://www.amazon.com/Bloodbrothers-A-No...dbrothers+prics

Wow. It was my first Price book I ever read. Wound up reading everything he wrote. Hands down my favorite author. Didn't know there was a movie! Shame on Cheech! It resonated with me as I worked construction with my dad from 19-22 yr old. Local 33 pipe insulators. I learned it wasn't what I wanted to do and I went to community college and got a good environmental job in an office with AC in the summer and heat in the winter. better than being on a ladder Any way. Great book. Glad this thread has good responses. Thanks to everyone that added on.
