For me Bobby's best role is Jake Le Motta from the Raging Bull followed by Jimmy Burke from The Goodfellas. A shout out to Don Corleone in GF2..
I know he's over 70 now and has done a lot of comedy roles in the past few years but surely he has one great film left in him, his last good film off the top of my head would be Heat..

Neil Maccauley - Heat Al Capone - The Untouchables
Not a role per se, but I still love when he showed up with Joe Pesci on SNL during Jim Breuer's "Joe Pesci Show."
Good point with Heat. I respect everything Deniro went through to become Al Capone, but my hatred of that movie blinds me to seeing anything positive about it. Deniro was the best thing about it though, still have no idea why Sean Connery won an Oscar for that . He was also great in Angel Heart, as well as one of my favourite comedies Midnight Run imo.

I'm not keen on The Untouchables as well, when watching today it's quite dated..

Raging Bull and The Deerhunter. I thought he was also very good in Bang the drum Slowly.
I have his biography and it mentions how Bang the Drum Slowly, was the first role when people really took notice of his talents; before Mean Streets and Godfather Part 2. Would you suggest the movie or is it only really Deniros performance that's impressive?

I like DeNiro in pretty much all of his Movies. But the one that really stood out for me was, "The King of Comedy" were he was Rupert Pupkin. Great movie. Also had Jerry Lewis and Sandra Bernhard.

I really this like one, though I think if you went to a baseball board a lot of the people wouldn't like it as a "baseball movie," because it's not trying to 100% re-create realistic professional baseball. It's very much a morality tale, but I think the moral's a good one. De Niro and Michael Moriarty are really good together, and there's a raftload of good old character actors.
His best role, though:

I would highly recommend the movie. He stands out, but the movie itself is entertaining and isn't too sentimental.

Thanks, i was starting to think either noone had seen it or that they hated it. For how unconventianal a role it is for Deniro and; that it's a Scorces movie i have no idea why it's not more widely known.

Thanks, it sounds like a good movie but i've yet to here of it outside the biography and this site This is the caption for it in this book: The role that first drew attention to Deniro-dying baseball player Bruce Pearson in Bang the Drum Slowly (1973), with Michael Moriarty as his friend Henry Wiggen and Vincent Gardenia as team manger 'Dutch' Schnell.

I am sure I read somewhere that he has signed up with Scorcese to do a film about Frank Sheeran, the Irishman who wrote the book about killing Jimmy Hoffa!!

Cam, one of the best movies. Love how Deniro's converted his mothers basement to look like a comedy stage! Great writing went into that whole movie. It's only for he true DeNiro fans ala Pacino's Cruising!
