This movie is a stark portrayal of life among a group of heroin addicts who hang out in "Needle Park" in New York City. Played against this setting is a low-key love story between Bobby, a young addict and small-time hustler, and Helen, a homeless girl who finds in her relationship with Bobby the stability she craves. She becomes addicted too, and life goes downhill for them both as their addiction deepens, eventually leading to a series of betrayals. But, in spite of it all, the relationship between Bobby and Helen endures. IMDB..

I sure this film was Pacino's first lead role in a film and i think its up there with his best performance. I don't think this film gets the credit it deserves, a very good film..

It is a WONDERFUL movie. Tough and gritty with great acting.

Kind of ironic that one of its stars, Richard Bright, died near there in real life.

Yeah. He was in this movie, too. He was hit by a bus and killed near the real Needle Park.

DeNiro,

I liked the movie too but it's been decades since I've seen it. It's never on tv (I don't have it on DVD). I still remembered the movie poster, along with the title (at the time) which for some reason intrigued me. EVERY performance Pacino gave in the 70s was absolutely excellent if you want my opinion. smile
