I remember where I was, we were changing out a 3-phase pole here in my hometown where I rarely got to work when our Operator called us on the radio and said "planes are falling out of the sky". So at lunch I took my bucket truck home and as I walked in the 2nd plane hit. Me and the old man sat there speechless.

There's a show on the Discovery Channel tonight called "9/11 Rescue Cops" which features my brother-in-law Kenny Winkler who was the leader of the elite New York Police Department's Emergency Service Unit, and was down at ground zero for days digging in rubble trying to rescue people.

My wife worked in that building. She missed it because he does not go in early. She heard about the first building getting hit, and came back home. It took her 6 hours to get home.
Kids woke me up to tell me about it. I asked then when was hit? When they told me i told them well she missed it. She will just come home. I did not know it would take her so long to get home. I told them do not go to the city.
My youngest daughter the communist was still going to Columbia at the time. I especially told her to stay where she was.
My wife sits in front of the TV and watches the names read every year. What's the point of that we both knew people who died there that day. She knew more then I did.
On the never forget living here I can tell plenty people forget or want to forget.
Right after it happened I will say this people here were never closer. Unfortunely that feeling has disappeared.

I try to watch as many of the documentaries as possible. One of the best is called "102 Minutes That Changed America." It's a collection of various videos from many perspectives around the city with a running clock. The choas that ensued, the look of fear and confusion, and the sounds really stand out.

I've seen this, you could easily have been watching a film. Surreal events..
I try to watch a few few programmes every year on the 11th. Last night i watched " Phone Calls from the Towers". Heartbreaking listening to some of the phone calls people made knowing there fate...

One of my college professors was attending Rutgers at the time of the attacks, and his account of what he saw from across the river...I can't even imagine.
Thirteen years ago, and the images are still as fresh as if it happened yesterday.

It was early here. I woke up and turned tv on (which I usually did to catch the news before I went to work) right after 1st plane hit. Then the second. It was unbelievable.
When I went to work (at a school) everyone (teachers, office, students) were very quiet and in shock. TV in the office was on and everyone sadly watching. We ALL were NYers that day.
For me, it is much like when JFK was assassinated. You think, it can't possibly happen HERE in America. I'll always remember where I was and what I was doing.

Thirteen years later and I can still hear the sound of fighter jets flying overhead as they patrolled NYC airspace.
I lived twelve miles away from the Twin Towers as the crow flies. Some of the fighter jets flew directly overhead as they raced in off one the carriers in the Atlantic. I used to hear the Blue Angels jets fly over my neighborhood every July as they practiced for and performed their show at Coney Island on the 4th. These jets on September 11th sounded louder and obviously more unnerving. I never in a million years would have guessed I'd hear our jets patrolling directly over me in an act of war.
I HATE those fucking scumbags that did this.

Here's a 12 minute video very well worth watching. One of these guys, Vinny Ardolino, was the captain of a party boat from Sheepshead Bay (the Amberjack).
Narrated by Tom Hanks, it tells of the LARGEST SEA EVACUATION IN HISTORY!

This ad ran just once and moved many to tears [during the Super Bowl]. The Budweiser Clydesales bowing in honor at the New York City skyline just months after the 9/11 terror attacks.
I couldn't copy the video, but if you haven't seen it, try this link:

JL, I watched it. Very good. It was preceded by an hour about Fire House 10. Both were excellent. After 13 years I still find it hard to watch news shows about 9/11. I was there that day. It's been posted many times before. I still find it hard to relive the day. I usually cry when I see video. When will we live our lives in peace?

Not seen the updated version but i'd say this is the best 9/11 doc i've seen. It's honestly unbelievable that they were there that day to film a documentary about the NYC Fire Department that would've more than likely have faded into obscurity and caught this. I was actually already aware of Buscemis work on 9/11 because of a good doc aired on Channel 4 i think here about the Fire Departments role.

For me also this is the best account of the day (using the word best sounds wrong) and they also have the only known film of the first plane hitting..

Using the word best doesn't sound wrong at all, i felt that the events were best depicted by this doc; so what am i supposed to say worst, adequate, what?

I apologize i wasn't having a pop at you either, i just have seen too much recently that using postive words like best and excellent (mostly from other forums i'm a part of) in reference to events like 9/11 documentaries offends some; as if i was saying that i approve of the events shown . I'd also say World At War is the best WW2 doc i've seen, but i certainly don't approve of the actions depicted since at the least three of my family members were killed there.

I watched tonight 9-11 The Fireman's story. There was a retired fireman talking about the days events and he lost both of his sons as they where first response. I can't imagine the pain he is going through, to lose your only two children, would life be worth living if your only two children where killed..

I watched Firehouse 10 too. Very good show. My wife's other brother was a fireman at Ground Zero and almost died too. She was so close to losing both of them.
