My favorite game as a child was Monopoly and still is. It's a great shame that board games are dying out as kids would rather spend hours in front of the TV playing computer games, even grown adults are gaming.. There is some good stuff on the website you provided..

A lot I remember from their new versions in the 90's. Of course the Red Ryder BB gun from A Christmas Story. So, would love that Bozo toy.

Also, those lawn darts are not sold anymore because a couple kids were killed by them.

Those were great thnx for sharing. You know kids these days would rather play inside than outside, including my own. I bought the new version of the green machine for my son and had to show him how to use it. Same thing with the big wheel but we got one that does 360's called the Rip Rider. So here I am showing my kids and all their friends how to do 360's in the parking lot near my house. I had so much fun I didn't wanna get off that thing smile I am a big kid.

When I was a kid back in the 1950s it was a baseball glove, a bike, a sled and skates.

Yea, I rode my bike everywhere or rollerskated. Remember skates that had the key? ha ha Also I remember entering a hula-hoop contest (they were really popular when they first came out) when I was about 9 or 10 years old. I won 9th prize. lol

I loved my Remco Toy Bazooka. It actually shot plastic shells. One time i shot my sister in the head with it so my mom took it away from me for an entire year.

I'm not sure whether you have kids DeNiro, but both of ours are under 12. Yes, the electronic devices have taken over. But our kids have plenty of board game and, surprisingly, nearly all of them were gift requests for either birthdays or holidays. My son was just playing checkers two nights ago, my daughter was on an Uno kick for awhile. The classics are still around and timeless. We have Monopoly, Chutes & Ladders, Operation, & Twister.

I don't have children, i guess it all depends on the parents really and if they spend time with their children playing and interacting from a young age or would they rather just give them a DS to play with to keep them quite..

How's this for a toy gun?

Check out this video on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8qXLxHi9_8&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Mattel also made a snub nose 38 it work the same way. Somebody from my neighborhood figure out a way to turn it into a one shot zip gun it shot one 22 cal. Round. A lot of people were killed by this toy before they stopped making them. It came with a shoulder holster smile

Now that was a toy

Thinking back on it my favorite possession when i was a little kid was my Schwinn Stingray Bicycle, the one with the 5 gear shifter. I loved that bike and rode it everywhere.

Rockem Sockem Robots was another great toy along with my electric football game and my table top hockey game , the one you control the players with those push/pull rods. Those were my favorite toys along with my toy Bazooka.

I entered a hula hoop contest once and someone's hoop hit mine, down it went and I was out....I would have won! TIS, when skateboards arrived we took old skates apart and nailed them to the bottom of boards to make "skate-boards". When I was 16, I bought a real skateboard made by Hobie. I still have it (maybe the Smithsonian would want it?). So that skateboard is about 48 years old. uhwhat

Same with me in the '60s.

I think the real changes began in the '70s, what with the introduction of the first home video games and whatnot.

When I was three (3), I was struck in the left eye by a dart. I was operated on and the doctors were able to save my sight. However, when I was in the hospital, I remember that my Uncle Terry brought me a steam shovel. It was big and blue. Those of you who are old enough will remember how big and clunky and heavy alot of the toys were back then. I just loved it and although I can't remember much from that age, I will never forget that steam shovel.

The rich kids had that. I can't believe I spent HOURS playing with my friend's game..... it was really just a vibrating board with tiny figures that would shake a little. lol

The best gift I got as a kid was my brother's hand-me-down train set. It was larger than HO scale and made of real metal. It had only about 15 feet of track but the engine spewed real steam and had a great whistle.

Other to-die-for toys from my youth were:

Davey Crockett coonskin cap
Hula Hoop
Slinky
Silly Putty
Air Rifle

Or someone else's.

My friend and I had these air rifles. You'd put a beebee in it, pump it up a few times and shoot. Well, my idiot friend put about 20 beebees in the barrel, pumped it up about a dozen times and took aim at a squirrel. It was like a shotgun, and he hit, and killed, the squirrel. It really upset me, so as he was jumping up and down and yelling about what a great shot he was I took aim at him and hit him square between his shoulder blades. He dropped to the ground almost crying and I almost peed my pants, laughing.

My dad bought me the Lionel train when I was little. I still have it. It has the tender, coal car, the red and yellow crane car, and the Kaboose. I wonder what it's worth.

Wow! Hoola Hoops and Slinky. You talk about hours of fun. How did we manage without videos and computers and cell iphones?

I wanted Baby Party one year for Christmas, and it was one of those hard-to-find toys. My mother somehow got the word that Alexander's on Fordham Road in the Bronx was going to have it, but she couldn't go, so she sent my dad. He said he got there early before the store opened and was shocked and appalled by the grabbing, crazy crowd. He swore he almost got trampled to death. My father hated to shop and pretty much never did, and that experience sealed the deal. I did get Baby Party, though!

Slinky and Silly Putty were awesome but I remember spending hours with the original Super Ball...we actually spent time outdoors..with other kids...and survived! Now, I drive down the neighborhood streets and can't spot a kid anywhere, unless he's just coming home from the video store of course smile

This made me laugh.

Best toy growing up? A piece of paper. My dad would fold into a football and we would play dinner table football. Had to slide on the edge of the table for a touchdown and kick extra point thru your hands.

I remember way back in the olden days, when I was a kid, getting a "Skinny wheel" bike. You guys remember when those came out, with the hand brakes? I don't know why I remember, but mine was a purple "J.C. Higgins" brand.

Hopping to a little more recent times, my girls were totally into the Cabbage Patch dolls. Tho, thankfully I was not one of them, I remember adults waiting in line, physical fights starting in stores, in order to get the doll they wanted. ha ha ha lol
