When I was a kid back in the 1950s it was a baseball glove, a bike, a sled and skates. Yea, I rode my bike everywhere or rollerskated. Remember skates that had the key? ha ha Also I remember entering a hula-hoop contest (they were really popular when they first came out) when I was about 9 or 10 years old. I won 9th prize. TIS

My favorite game as a child was Monopoly and still is. It's a great shame that board games are dying out as kids would rather spend hours in front of the TV playing computer games, even grown adults are gaming.. There is some good stuff on the website you provided.. I'm not sure whether you have kids DeNiro, but both of ours are under 12. Yes, the electronic devices have taken over. But our kids have plenty of board game and, surprisingly, nearly all of them were gift requests for either birthdays or holidays. My son was just playing checkers two nights ago, my daughter was on an Uno kick for awhile. The classics are still around and timeless. We have Monopoly, Chutes & Ladders, Operation, & Twister.

How's this for a toy gun? Check out this video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8qXLxHi9_8&feature=youtube_gdata_playerMattel also made a snub nose 38 it work the same way. Somebody from my neighborhood figure out a way to turn it into a one shot zip gun it shot one 22 cal. Round. A lot of people were killed by this toy before they stopped making them. It came with a shoulder holster Now that was a toy

TIS I entered a hula hoop contest once and someone's hoop hit mine, down it went and I was out....I would have won! TIS, when skateboards arrived we took old skates apart and nailed them to the bottom of boards to make "skate-boards". When I was 16, I bought a real skateboard made by Hobie. I still have it (maybe the Smithsonian would want it?). So that skateboard is about 48 years old.

When I was a kid back in the 1950s it was a baseball glove, a bike, a sled and skates. Same with me in the '60s. I think the real changes began in the '70s, what with the introduction of the first home video games and whatnot.

Who had a Tudor electric football game?
The rich kids had that. I can't believe I spent HOURS playing with my friend's game..... it was really just a vibrating board with tiny figures that would shake a little. The best gift I got as a kid was my brother's hand-me-down train set. It was larger than HO scale and made of real metal. It had only about 15 feet of track but the engine spewed real steam and had a great whistle. Other to-die-for toys from my youth were: Davey Crockett coonskin cap Hula Hoop Slinky Silly Putty Air Rifle

You'll shoot your eye out, kid. Or someone else's. My friend and I had these air rifles. You'd put a beebee in it, pump it up a few times and shoot. Well, my idiot friend put about 20 beebees in the barrel, pumped it up about a dozen times and took aim at a squirrel. It was like a shotgun, and he hit, and killed, the squirrel. It really upset me, so as he was jumping up and down and yelling about what a great shot he was I took aim at him and hit him square between his shoulder blades. He dropped to the ground almost crying and I almost peed my pants, laughing.

My dad bought me the Lionel train when I was little. I still have it. It has the tender, coal car, the red and yellow crane car, and the Kaboose. I wonder what it's worth. Wow! Hoola Hoops and Slinky. You talk about hours of fun. How did we manage without videos and computers and cell iphones?

You'll shoot your eye out, kid. This made me laugh. Best toy growing up? A piece of paper. My dad would fold into a football and we would play dinner table football. Had to slide on the edge of the table for a touchdown and kick extra point thru your hands.
When Interpol?

I remember way back in the olden days, when I was a kid, getting a "Skinny wheel" bike. You guys remember when those came out, with the hand brakes? I don't know why I remember, but mine was a purple "J.C. Higgins" brand. Hopping to a little more recent times, my girls were totally into the Cabbage Patch dolls. Tho, thankfully I was not one of them, I remember adults waiting in line, physical fights starting in stores, in order to get the doll they wanted. ha ha ha TIS
