Iceman you're a dickhead, but what corrupt State? You don't even know what the fuck you talking about? Fascist bullshit? when there was fascism, the mobsters were tortured and killed, the families deported. mafias have always done business with the state and have no interest in that the state changes.
In america you don't know what it means to have a large part of the territory (3 regions,Sicily,Campania and Calabria) in the hands of organized crime, can mention Demeo, Pitera, Scarpa, Distefano and Spilotro, but Giovanni Brusca makes them appear like lambs (Brusca killed or participated personally in 150 murders), there are in calabria children that until they learn to think was inculcated them the idea that they must become murderers for the good of the family.
In Italy there are and there will always be the heroes who will fight not only against the anti-state but also the parts of the state that deviate from the right way.
Italy before Falcone and Borsellino was like Pablo Escobar's Colombia or the Mexico of Drug Cartels, and since 1992 has made so much progress. Corrupt State? don't say bullshit.
we have more problems than any state, but we go on.
Sorry for the outburst, but I had to write it.
Long live to Italy, death to the mafias.

There will always be mafia, everywhere in the world, especially south italy. You can't destroy it,you can control their power.
@furio_from_naples: Believe me,Italy have less problems than Serbia, this is fu*ked up state, average salary is 300e,there are people that work for 150-200e per month. The unemployment rate is 38,4%.And after all that we don't have strong mafia or big mafia presence at all,its about mentality of people, someone who do crime here,it is big shame.

You're kidding right?
The Italian mafia think nothing of taking children from families, holding them captive, holding them hostage for ransom, mutilating them, dissolving them in vats of acid, car bombings, feeding their enemies to starving pigs, killing members of the judiciary.......
Fuck the Italian mafia. At least the American mafia has some limits. Don't go all nuts now. Unless it's during a turf war, or someone starts cooperating, they don't involve women and children as a rule. And mafia holding children for ransom? Where did you hear that? They kidnapped, held, and tortured, the 11 year old boy, Giuseppe Di Matteo, because his father became pentito and wouldn't retract his testimony. And the man that kidnapped that boy did have remorse, but Brusca gave him an order, that's that. These instances are few and far between.

strax I can't speak Serbia, but I can tell you that even here there is the pass well, especially in the south, I have my friends who can't find work even if have graduated and my cousin is going to boston to work. Italy is divided into 20 regions, 18 of which are completely in the hands of organized crime: Camorra, Ndrangheta or Mafia don't matter, the clans kills both in Reggio Calabria in Cuneo or Turin. From 2000 to today, 1,300,000 people emigrated from southern Italy to northern Italy if not abroad. And the situation is getting worse.

Giuseppe Di Matteo is the most famous example, but they have been killing children even before Riina and the Corleonesi:
Michele Navarra in Corleone in 1948 poisoned the boy Giuseppe Letizia who was hospitalized after having a breakdonwn because of seeing Luciano Leggio killing the political activist Placido Rizzotto. Navarra was a doctor working in that hospital.
Paolino Riccobono from Tommaso Natale was killed by the Cracolici clan in the 60s, bound and shot in the head just because he was a relative of the opposite group.
Both were little more than 10 (maybe 11 or 12).
There are other cases (I don't remember all of them) when children have been intentionally killed by organized crime in Italy, and even more cases when they were killed because of being in company of somebody who was the real target.
Anyway, my main point is that there never was an "old mafia that didn't kill women and children". The old mafia was no better than Riina's gang, even more hypocritical because they pretended to be benefactors and used naive people to lure them on their side. Well that's my point. It's not common but when it happens, it's because of the reasons I mentioned. And accidental shootings I dont include in this category. I know last year one woman and her young son were killed in the car, but the woman went from one mafioso, who was killed and was the father of her son, to messing with another one, which ended in her death along with her son, but they were killed unintentionally.

[quote=Moe_Tilden] And mafia holding children for ransom? Where did you hear that?
The ndrangheta abducted and held lots of people, including children, throughout the 1970s and 1980s, in many cases children of a very young age, typically seized from wealthy families in the north and transported to remote areas of the Aspromonte . . . . The 48th through 104th minutes of this Ndrangheta documentary deals with the kidnappings, including actual footage of the victims upon release from captivity. Pretty appalling stuff . . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kPFwqrkSn8

I see the 9 year old Cesare that they talk about was kidnapped strictly for the intention of ransom, among others. I stand corrected on that.
