What were/are the best or worst new or used cars you've owned? I'll start:

My best new car was a '96 Subaru Impreza--simple, well-built, completely reliable, wonderful in NJ ice and snow. Had it for 12 years, never gave me a minute's trouble.

Runner up: 2000 BMW M5--supercar sedan, ultra-fast, slot-car handling but a wonderful, well-mannered road car. Iron fist in velvet glove. Still own it.

Best used car: 2002 Honda Civic--completely reliable, completely economical, in perfect running condition at 92k miles, never less than 28 mpg under any conditions, usually more.

Worst new car: '83 Dodge Aries--clutch and air conditioning failed at ~15k miles, body failed from day one, more rattles than a haunted house, a complete piece of crap.

Worst used car: '57 Plymouth Belvedere--possibly the worst put-together car of the Fifties. <100 miles per quart of oil, front end collapsed twice, trans leaked, completely worthless.

Yours?

Yeah TB, those Dodge-Plymouth products were not so good.

I loved my '78 VW Rabbit, 4 spd. manual and it could zip. Handled well. BUT, it had a quirk - started hot, started cold, not so good at warm.

Best all around - 2007 Honda, CRV. Comfort, power, economical.

Worst - 1978 Chrysler Cordoba. 350 hp gas guzzler. It could take regular gas, but I had to put in Plus to eliminate the lifter-rattle. Drifted to the right, but the factory people said there was nothing wrong that they could find. Bullshit, I think the frame was bent. Got totaled in an accident, thank God.

Favorite (nostalgia) - 1950 Chevy Deluxe, straight 6, 3 spd on the column. Comfy back seat for making-out.

Worst: 1980 Camaro, my first car. Absolute junk. Anything made in the late 70's through the 80's were absolute junk except the mid 80's Buick Grand National's. Loved those cars!

Best: So far this 2011 Ford F150 Lariat Super Crew 4x4 I just bought a few weeks ago. I'm a Ford person (new stuff anyways) and so far this thing is pretty nice. I traded my 2011 Super Cab version in for this one, I had that new 3.5L EcoBoost that would flat out haul ass but I wanted the 5.0 because it is Flex Fuel and the EcoBoost motors have been having issues with carbon build up. The 5.0 is a great motor in my opinion even back to the days of the Mustang Boss 302 (I'm more of a Chevy/Mopar guy in the 60/70 cars though) to the 90's Mustang 5.0's and even the 90 version F150's with the same motor.

I've had 6 Acuras in the last 15 years, never had any problem with any of them. When my lease is up next December I'll get another one as I see no reason to even look at anyting else.

I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla that, besides the usual maintenance, is it great running condition. I'd wager I could get another 5 years out of that car.

I have only had one used car, a 1969 VW Beetle that I bought while in college. Car was great (engine wise, the salt in Syracuse destroyed the body). Since then I have had, in order, 1982 Celica, 1984 Cressida, 1992 Camry, 2007 Camry, and 2012 Camry. Sense a pattern here? Mixed in there was a 1997 Saturn. Interestingly, the Saturn ended up with the most miles on it (255,000) when I got rid of it. All of the Toyotas had nothing but routine maintenance on them and when I parted ways with them they each had over 190,000 miles on them. I still have the 2007 and 2012 - we buy a new car for my wife and I inherit her car.

My old man had a 97 Corolla that my brother owned first, then my Mom then my Dad took it over. It had well over 300,000 on it until he popped a deer a few months ago and totaled it. It was still running strong.
