So.. I hear all about people in the same families clipping each other, but I'm curious about beefs between people in different families. Anyone know any good ones? Like have the colombos and the bonannos went at it? Even if not a full blown war, just fighting between random members. I'm interested to hear some examples and see who came out on top. I know about the chin/gotti thing. I mean something that had a clear cut winner and loser.
Edit** I'm not just talking about things that ended in murder. Just any stories of person A from one family making person B of another family back down in whichever way. I know beefs between families usually get handled with sit - downs, but have there been times when one guy just gets a baseball bat and makes the other guy back down?

Greg Scarpa and a made guy from the Gambinos had a sitdown over Linda Schiro. She was with the other guy and he was treating her bad so she went with Greg. There was a sitdown and Greg won apparently. He won his goomah (and later wife) at a sitdown.. what a story to tell the kids how you met.

I read about some guy, I know he was made, threatening a made guy from another family with violence because one of his associates got stabbed by the other guys crew. He wanted them to pay for damages and I think they refused. This couldnt have been more than 2 years ago. The guy got arrested or something to that effect. I think it was a gambino associate who stabbed a colombo associate, no made guys involved. They wanted like a hundred grand, gambino's didn;t pay. That's actually still along the lines of what I'm looking for. I know of some extremely powerful associates, and if they're on the record then it's still a family vs family issue IMO. It's interesting to me to see a battle (not all out war) between people in different families to see who made who back down. Like that gambino vs colombo thing. The story about scarpa was cool too. It was a sit down so that's kinda mundane, but winning your wife in a sit down adds a cool flavor to it

Sometimes I wonder about shit like that. If scarpa and tony mirra had beef about something and it didn't go to a sit down. I can't imagine 2 psychos like that going at each other. Watching movies and reading stuff online, one would think that gangsters had their territories and stayed out of each others way, but it's dog eat dog and some guys want what the other guy has, or they have beef at an event or something. There must be a bunch of stories like that

If you remember goodfellahs, when tommy and jimmy beat billy bats to death, desimone, and burke were associates of the luchesse family. the true story was billy batts went to prison,
and, jimmy burke took over his operations [ loan sharking, bookmaking] when batts got out he wanted his rackets back, so burke and desimone killed him.
later the luchesse family clipped desimone for killing a made guy, along with murdering a guy named foxy.

Yup I'm familiar with that story. Not exactly the type of thing I'm looking for since it was a clear violation of the rules and it was dealt with amongst the higher ups and a punishment was handed down. But before desimone got clipped I guess it applies. They went at it and batts got killed. But they must have known that was a mistake. He was a made guy and they weren't

While this topic is still up here, could anyone inform me as to how jimmy burke ended up with all the rackets when batts was locked up? There might even be a story behind that that could apply to this topic. A made guy from the gambinos gets locked up and his rackets go to an associate in the lucchese family? There weren't any made guys in the gambino family that would have wanted those rackets?

I am sure there are a bunch of stories in Northern New Jersey. They rub shoulders all the time. Here is a San Francisco story. Nani Sebastino had a second home in the bay area under an alias, despite sources saying he transferred from the Profaci crime family to the San Francisco family. He remained a Profaci capo with three to four soldiers living out there who had blood family ties to SF and SJ. Sebastino and SF capo Mario Balistreri are bidding on a boat using frontmen, unaware that they are bidding on the same boat. Mario wins it, and Nani has Vincenzo Figlia go and find out who won the boat. Figlia sends an associate, and within a few days, the associate finds the owner who owns a diner. Both men do not realize that they are both connected and get into an arguement, which leads to a fight. The man reports back to Figlia who in turns reports back to Sebastino. Nani orders the diner to be destroyed and later on it has a fire. The owner had already reported the incident to Mario who in turned had the associates car brought to his scrap yard and torn apart. Both of these incidents happened almost at the same time. Now a couple of days later, Joe Cerrito who is a capo in the SJ family at the time, visits Mario at his Santa Clara home, who is going on about this guy who is giving him problems over a boat in front of Tony Lanza, and another guy. Joe already heard part of the story from his brother Salvatore, then realized what had happened. He tells Balistreri to clam down and makes a few calls. A sit down takes place, the diner owner becomes a partner in a restaurant, and the associate gets a new car and gets a no show at the restaurant. Thats the story. Gives you an ideal on how these guys operated on getting back at people who wronged them. Doesn't take much thinking of how this might have turned out if it had gotten ugly.

I mean, risking so much by killing a soldier over it. Then again, Jimmy Burke was pretty crazy. Which is why he was so feared.

I am sure there are a bunch of stories in Northern New Jersey. They rub shoulders all the time. The Campisis (Genovese Family associates in Newark, N.J.) had a dispute with Philadelphia family made guy Dominic Luciano in the early 70s. They killed him with a shotgun in his own driveway. The story is in the book Deal by Harvey Aronson, or if you have several hundred to burn, the book To Drop A Dime by Paul Hoffman and Ira Pecznick. (Pecznick was one of the shooters who turned state's evidence) If the legend is to be believed, they had gotten permission from Luciano's captain Tony Bananas Caponigro to hit him.

He did in fact made some sneer remarks to Tommy DeSimone and piss them off, although that wasn't the reason for him getting clipped, obviously.
