Reading Five Families its a phenomenal book..
But im half way through where they are going over the commission case. It had me thinking.. Do mob social clubs still exist? Seems like a bad idea to me, if I were one of those goons.
Also.. how do they even communicate now days? Is it strictly walk and talks in malls or other public places? I mean the feds got to their personal homes, their cars, their clubs, the favorite table in a restaurant they like to eat. The feds proved to be able to bug basically anywhere they go. How do they do it now days?

If I were a high ranking member in LCN, I would recognize that if technology has been destroying the families for years, I would then use technology to build ourselves back up.
My idea:
If I were the boss, I would have a designated place to talk business with trusted people......Some room, any room but, in that room would be 2 computers, not wired into the net AND, both computers would have a keyboard and headphones. Now when 1 person types their inquiry on 1 computer, the other computer would speak my text into THEIR headphones.....In return, they would reply via keyboard and, I would hear what they typed, in computer voices....Simple, right?....How can anyone get caught?, especially if I am communicating with laptops and headphones that are ALWAYS in my possession and never linked to the net?....Wifi cards would be ripped out.
A simple headphone out jack from my computer to his would allow flawless communication.....The text to speech technology may have even be available in Gotti's day...I remember it did exist in the apple computers in 1993 I think.

Too complicated, I just can't imagine any of the older guys doing this. In the end it's just a more complex version of: i think they need to write on pieces of paper and burn them right after. Only when in the same room with each other, of course.

I mean paper and burning seems ok if you can. maybe invisible ink? I thnk the Aryan brotherhood sent out messages hidden written in urine. Ive also heard of people like making an email that they and one other person have the account login info. when they need to tell the other something they will write a draft email not send it and then the other person can log in and read the draft. not perferct by any means Im guessin.
I know in Canada they mafia I think had issues recently when blackberry messages were retrieved and they thought that was very secure. There are new apps to for texting that don't store messages and delte them pretty fast but still. hand signals? code. smoke signals? plane flybys?
Maybe they all get carrier pigeons from Migliore to deliver messages?

I would imagine the best way nowadays is to write shit down then burn them, like others have said. There is no way in hell I would send anything via text or email. I would be terrified even talking on a burner phone.
