For each of the four other family's we could name many members who were well known and dangerous wiseguys. Scarpa, casso, de meo, mirra, pitera etc. however with the west side it's hard to really think of any in recent times. They defiantly has there fair share of psychos but who were they? Still find it funny tho how the genovese have had the fewest flip but still had the first to flip and was potentially the most damaging. Valachi.

I'd also love some info on the Westside guys but it's very hard to come by and few people will actually tell you anything worthwhile. I've heard they have a small but very dangerous hit team, but haven't heard of any names specifically... I think they're based in Jersey but I could be wrong.

Pizza is right. The Genovese Family have had their share of tough guys throughout the years and probably still do. They are not superhuman, just because they belong to the Genovese Family. I am a little surprised over the fact that the feds have not come up with a good, solid case against the top guys the last 15 years or so. I can´t help to believe that this is only due to lack of a good, solid informant. The way the top guys have been able to insulate themselves (and I hate to say this because I would love to see a top Genovese flip) for the last 15 years is outstanding and absolutely second to none. I´ll give them that.

As for the tough guys, the wild and uncontrollables (is that a word???) usually don´t last long. Sooner or later most of these guys end up at the receiving end. Guys like John DiGilio and Jerry Papa all met a violent death. Tino Fiumara was another one who didn´t give a shit, whacked people from left to right, but slowed down once he got made. Pretty unknown member Figgy Ficarotta was another Genovese guy who found killing very easy. Etc, etc.

The Genovese family was so big, with a very limited amount rats, and very secretive. We'll never know. There were some very intimidating guys though. One soldier is Charles Gagliodotto who put the fear of god into people. He did nothing wrong but they were so scared of him they just killed him to ease their own nerves. There was 2 soldiers from the Springfield ma crew that flipped about 5 6 yes ago they could only give up art nitro there conduit to the bosses. During nigro trial they said he was acting boss. I believe the 2 rats didn't no his actual position. He has all Bruno killed and the whole Springfield crew reports to him wouldn't that make him a capo. When nitro gets indicted around 05 the feds have him a soldier so who knows. Keeps them guessing. I was trying my best to not refer to anything. But okay, I was referencing Tino and Cigars and the urban legend that turned them into the Shore version of the DeMeo crew. Because it's nonsense. Long story short, when you're good you tend to get lucky breaks. It works like that in all walks of life. But make no mistake, they were VERY lucky there. The people that Buster used to meet with at that joint would have brought the whole house down if they didn't luck out and find that bug.

Yes, they're smarter than the rest of the families, and a LOT more secretive. But all that means is that they'll hang in there a little longer. Because I swear to God, the day is gonna come when the Westside gives us a rat, and I think these websites are gonna hang a flag at half mast.

What separates the Genovese from the other families is not the total number of informants, they have a bit less, but still plenty. It's the amt of damage done. If Nigro had flipped a lot of damage would be done. But he didn't.

Pizzaboy, you have to understand that for new posters it's very confusing. First of all they (us) read a few books on mafia. They think they know something because normally when you read a historian, it's usually somewhat correct. Not the case always with the mob... Then you come to a forum like this and you ask a question. You'll get at least 5 different answers, most of them in very definite form. Like there's no question that the posters opinion is the right one. Even if you read the post archives, it takes you a while to figure out which posters know something and which ones just repeat or possibly even make it up. It's really a very challenging thing to separate the fiction from reality, and I can understand why many people post "stupid shit". I'm sure I'm one of them sometimes.

Anyway, you are one of those people whose every post I try to read and memorize, so I would love to see you post here in the future too.

Just read thru a lot of old posts before u post something and you'll see the patterns. You have the ones who have the info, the ones who post the news (they are also helpful), the ones who ask the good questions, and then the rest who post hypothetical bullshit and ridiculous questions. Just pay attention to the ones who have the info. It's not hard to tell who's who.
