George Zimmerman was injured in a shooting on Monday in Florida, police said.

The shooting in Lake Mary involved Zimmerman and a man identified as Matthew Apperson, police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett said. Zimmerman did not fire any shots, according to police.

Neither man has been arrested, and investigators are working to determine whether charges will be brought, Gillett said.

NBC affiliate WESH, citing its own helicopter video, said that there was a bullet hole in a vehicle that Zimmerman had been in on Monday.

Zimmerman was hit in the face with glass and debris, police told WESH. Investigators are waiting to speak with both men, who sustained "minor injuries" and have been released from the hospital, Gillett said less than four hours after the shooting.

Police Chief Steve Bracknell told WESH that the shooting may have been related to an "ongoing dispute."

In September 2014, Apperson accused Zimmerman of saying "he was going to shoot me dead," during a road rage incident, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Apperson did not press charges, the Sentinel reported at the time.

In 2013, Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder by a Florida jury in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager. The Justice Department closed its investigation into the killing earlier this year and declined to bring civil rights charges.

Zimmerman was arrested in January after police said he threw a wine bottle at his girlfriend. Prosecutors declined to bring charges after the woman recanted her statement.

Zimmerman filed a defamation suit against NBC News in 2012. A judge dismissed that claim last year, and Zimmerman has appealed.

I was raised to believe that what comes around goes around. And regardless of what happened to Trayvon (not that a 17-year-old boy should EVER be an afterthought), this guy Zimmerman is a mentally unbalanced scumbag.

He'll eventually run into the wrong guy, especially in that crazy State. It would be a delightful irony if the guy who finally puts him to sleep is Whiter than snow. What comes around goes around.

Trayvon Martin was no saint or productive member of society.

That being said I never liked George Zimmerman or thought he was an upstanding individual either. The only reason I believed he should have been acquitted was because the prosecutor went too far in trying to convict him.

I have no sympathy for Zimmerman at all but don't understand why his lawsuit Vs the media was dismissed. It was very clearly documented that they doctored up the tapes to make Zimmerman look racist. Guys like him will eventually get what they have coming.

No the justice system didn't fail, the prosecutor failed in that case.

Now that Zimmerman has accrued a violent reputation for himself, technically anyone in Florida could shoot him and claim they were standing their ground.

The smartest thing he could ever do, is get out and far away from any stand-your-ground state.

But is he smart?

A drive by shooting at someone has nothing to do with stand your ground laws. Stand your ground laws were irrelevant to his trial anyway and were brought up as a possible defense that was never used. But your point about moving away from Florida is well taken since there will always be people who will target him there. He needs to get a new identity and change his appearance.

Just a note that it's really important that cases be investigated before everyone decides what they're all about.
