Anyone know what is going on in Baltimore at the moment? Been 38 murders this month, and 111 for the year so far, more murders this month than there has been in a month in about 20 years. Reminds me of season 3 of the wire, Stanfield Barksdale war.

According to a few articles I've read, there had been some internal problems with the police force and West Baltimore patrolling, before the riots began. Arrests were down by almost 30% before the riots and now they've plummetted to below 56% of what they were last year.

There is a perception, correct or incorrect, that the patrol cops are "giving the people what they want". Specifically, West Baltimore folks thought the cops were too involved, now they aren't at all.

But, based on what I've read, the City/State asked the Justice Department to evaluate the way Baltimore PD does business before the riots. So, it's not just contributable to police reaction to the riots.

In other words, the problem/friction/distrust with the patrol cops and the top city brass existed before the riots. As a result of the riots, the cops are taking a step back, as if to say, "you want to criticize our methods and want us to be less hands-on, you got it".

I saw the videos and yes, there are some bad people doing bad things in West Balitmore. But, they aren't all bad.

Basically what Nicky Whip said is spot on...the police are doing exactly what the handbook tells them to do and that is it, they are not being proactive, where in the past if based on their years of training and experience, if some guys are on the corner they would run up on them and probably arrest some of them. Now they just see people hanging on the corner which is not against the law per se, but unfortunately teh good citizens of west baltimore will suffer because the corner boys and the gangs will make a big grab for the market and bodies will fall.

You can thank the mayor, the police commissioner, the Baltimore state attorney, reverend AL, the justice department, for what is going on, because the cops can either due their 10 hour shift and just go home or they can get involved and possibly look at a 15-30 year prison sentence, the police there and probably in many cities feel they have no backing from the people in government who run the cities. Its sad for the citizens. The mayor and the baltimore state attorney are extremely incompetent by their actions in this matter and should resign and allow the people of Baltimore a chance to get their city back

Are most of these killings over drug territory? Or is it about gangs beefing with each other?

Have a old friend that's went down there became a cop. I seen the show the wire and Baltimore is hopeless. Good looking parts. On my way down myrtle beach 95 was detours threw the city and it looks old.

Who would want to start a business in west Baltimore where rioters could steal everything out of a store and burn it to the ground? Baltimorians have been rioting since 1968 and the city will never recover as long as crap like that continues.

Inferior schools? Baltimore schools get $17,000 per student per school year, which is about the third highest in the country. Where's the money going? Add to that the fact that schools aren't allowed to kick out students who cause trouble in class. Even students who assault and threaten teachers get to stay in school.

There you have it. The cops feel like they don't have the support of the government (both local and federal), who will throw them under the bus in order to appease the angry mobs. And the result is what they get when cops aren't proactive and able to do their job. One can feel sorry for the law abiding black citizens who recognize and appreciate what law enforcement does for them. The rest, it's just desserts. You don't like the cops? You don't want them messing with you when you or others break the law? Well, have fun while your community (and I use that term loosely) implodes.

The Drug Enforcement Administration said money, drugs and gangs are behind the uptick in violence in the Baltimore Police Department's Western District.

The DEA and other law enforcement partners, including Baltimore City police, served search warrants on 1625 and 1627 W. North Ave. at 4 a.m. Thursday. Officials said there had been a lot of drug and gang activity at those locations during and after the riots last month.

Police detained 13 men and women. They questioned them at the Western District, but only one was arrested. Bryan Franklin Stewart, 31, is known to police as the leader of the Crips sect in Baltimore called the Rolling 60s. He faces 10 charges for having a 9 mm gun and drugs.

According to court records, Stewart has a criminal history dating back to 2002 that includes convictions for stealing cars; burglary; possessing, manufacturing and distributing drugs; and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

Gary Tuggle, assistant special agent in charge of the DEA Baltimore district office, said 17 pharmacies were looted during the civil unrest, and he said gangs were behind much of it.

"We believe that in some instances gang members specifically targeted the pharmacies for the Schedule II drugs, that being OxyContin, oxycodone, Vicodin and Percocet," Tuggle said.

The DEA said they never know what they are going to find when they execute a search warrant and they usually go in expecting the worst. They said the raid offered one more block of information about what is going on in the Western District in terms of the increase of violence. Tuggle said that's enough drugs to keep the city high for one year.

Actually that might be a legit set due to the Rolling 60s spreading out across the country. There's 60s in Nashville, Atlanta, Houston, and elsewhere as well. Being one of the (if not the largest) black gang in L.A .

I'm speaking on LEGIT ties as in this set got started via L.A member or through family/business connections. Also lets not forget that you still have false flaggers in the cities where it originated as well.

I don't live in a big city. but, recently a Iraq war veteran killed 3 people and then burned down their house. the article in the newspaper said he did 3 tours in Iraq.

he went to the V,A, and they gave him a handful of pills. this is happening more than it should up in the far north area where im at. guys that come back from the wars in the middle east are coming undone when they get home.

I was reading some posts from some vets discussing the VA, and they said that the problems started after it was pulled out from the Dept. of Defense and made a separate one. That's when it became political instead of looking out for the best interests of vets.

They were rioting because they wanted an excuse to. Simple as that. If it wasn't for cops patrolling the area over there it would be like world war 3 amongst gangs.
