That's exactly right. He didn't have any long-term investments and/or real estate except for a modest house in Yonkers. And he always had more power than he had money.

His entire family lives down there now, even his first wife, mostly around Boynton and Delray. It's still a three-hour drive through Deliverance Land, but it's better than getting on a plane once a month. Plus, they always spent a lot of time in Florida anyway.

Angelo would never flip. He may have been broke, but that's only because his status meant much more to him than money. And flipping would ruin that status. But he was pretty disgusted towards the end.

The thing that made Angelo unique among wiseguys of todays era, he could care less about what was in his bank account. The only currency that mattered to him was the respect his name carried on the street. While alot of his friends went for the fast money in drugs, Angelo was never tempted to go that route. At the end of the day tho, if you ask me, none of it really mattered because they all ended up doing life.

If society stigmatizes you, nobody cares what law enforcement/legal system does to you.....you are presumed guilty. People doing the SAME actions but who look different or have different last names are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Yes, but it was through happenstance (visiting, or whatever the case may be). He never lived in Illinois. His family was already firmly entrenched in Harlem and the East Bronx by that time. His Uncle Rudy (who is often misidentified as his father) was already a made guy with the Westside at the time. He basically grew up every day of his life in New York.

The Westside/Outfit connections have been plentiful since the beginning. The Genovese Family is probably the New York family that most resembles The Outfit. Secretive, Americanized, they stress getting involved in legitimate businesses, and they play a lot of golf lol.

I threw in an lol, but I'm basically serious there. I think they realized a long time ago that friendly business is easier to conduct on the golf course than in the boardroom or in the street. The two groups often met in Palm Springs for golf weekends. This was as recent as the early '90s. Today, probably not so much, except for all of the Outfit and Westside guys retired out there (and there are quite a few).
