Buddy should have been the Boss and would have been of the other two didn't convince a distracted Ducks to have him killed, but if were saying Buddys already dead then it has to be Mikey Salerno whos former crew runs the family now Perfectly put. Mikey would be dead or retired by now anyway. He was pushing seventy when he was killed, and that's 25 years ago. But the power was always right there before Ducks lost his mind during the Commission case. East Harlem, East Bronx, Southern Westchester. A slow progression north. Those animals in Brooklyn set that family back ten years. But the old Salerno crew's close ties to the Westside, especially through their construction partnerships, insured that the power would end up back where it belonged. This isn't a geographical boast. I wouldn't piss on most wiseguys if they were on fire. But the right guy is clearly running things in that family smoother than anyone has since before the Commission case.

I also thing furnari played a huge part in getting those morons what they wanted Dom - I think you're right especially since Casso was in his crew and I thought Amuso was too? Wasn't Santoro the one who was pushing hard for Buddy Luongo?

another guy who helped undermined Buddy then who ever is successor would have been is Eddie Coco, which the kick in the ass is the Harlem Bronx guys loved him, but thats why many Italian American gangsters had/have a hard time trusting greaseballs as they would put it That was hard to swallow. Especially given Eddie's boxing partnership with the Westside. He and Cockeyed Nick were partners for years. And we're always talking about how close the Lucchese/Genovese relationship is in the Bronx/Westchester area (and in East Harlem years ago). Anyway, Nick was dead by the time Buddy got hit. If he was still alive, I really don't think Eddie would have gotten swayed like that. But that's just conjecture. Because as it is, the Westside is the most homegrown family. And if you think back to Eddie's betrayal, I guess it's for a reason.

Avellino and Mig had the same mindset, pmac. They both got very wealthy at young ages and became more white collar as the years progressed. As close as they were to the top at one time, neither showed much interest in running things. Pb I assume you mean sal not his brother right? Guy seems like a pretty smart successful capo for a long time not withstanding the bug in his Jaguar. He must b rich as shit..guy has to have been a capo for fuckin 35-40 years now? Altho thought I read his brother is either acting or official capo now? In ur guys opinion...Other than obv amuso/gas and buddy/salerno who else at that time was a powerful capo that would have been also in consideration for boss? iMO besides Migliore possibly one of the DiNapolis? Macaluso? Id say Acetturo if he wasnt outta Jersey/Florida bc he was at the height of his powwee then imo

How powerful was Dominick Cataia around the time Buddy got killed? Was he a Captain?
I think Matthew Madonna could have been a heavyweight if he wasn't sent to prison. Thats a good question Zavattoni forgot about him Pb im guessing Carmines running his crew? Do u think in 86 that one of the DiNapolis or Macaluso coulda been serious contenders for Lucchese famie boss?

Do u think in 86 that one of the DiNapolis or Macaluso coulda been serious contenders for Lucchese famie boss? Only Joey Dee is a Lucchese. Louie and Vinny (rest in peace to Vinny, a true gentleman) were Westsiders. And in '86 Joey wasn't that strong yet. Vinny was heading inside at that time. And that's when Stevie really made a name for himself through his construction partnerships with the DiNapolis. His closeness to the DiNapoli brothers can not be understated. It brought the Harlem and Bronx Luccheses even closer than they already were.

Pb as always appreciate the insight my man..my mistake mixing up the Dinapolis..so joey gained most of his power in the 90s id assume? Damn didnt know Stevie was already that powerful and wealthy back in 86..was he a capo then or just a soldier?...do u kow mucch about Macaluso? @Mikeyballs211,
I believe Macaluso was Tommy Lucchese's Consigliere in the 60's, and then by the 80's an underboss-in name only. I don't think he actually had alot of power. I don't think he was even considered a successor to Tony Ducks. He was old by then... He was then forced into retirement by Amuso.
PB, Am i on point about all of this? Pretty much. Macaluso was an old man by the time Ducks went away. I think it was more of an honorary title than anything else. He died not too long after they put him out to pasture.
