Ferg, research isn't out yet on e cigarettes. Taken in moderation I don't think any of the "vices" are that bad...but chain smoking, eating burgers, or drinking moonshine everyday is gonna cut that 80 down to 40....or 30.

I say it's bullshit. You're still inhaling nicotine and God knows what else. Of course they will say it is good for you, they want you to buy it! How long did it take before the tobacco companies finally admitted cigs kill you?
I'd say there are some chemicals in that liquid that is bad for you. What it is who knows? But to think it is 100% safe is only fooling yourself (meaning anyone that thinks that). I about slapped my 19 year old nephew because he asked me to buy some flavored brand about two years ago and I told him I'd break his damn neck if he ever asked again or I caught him smoking it because his words were "it's perfectly safe". Bullshit.
And yes I'm a former 1-2 pack a day smoker myself.

What you said sounds about right,"research" won't be in for years, but I can't imagine anything being worse for respiratory system than regular cigarette smoke.
You are right that the marketing of e-cigs is misleading.
How did you stop smoking? I've only known three people ever to do that

It was rough man and sorry I missed this reply somehow.
I just quit cold turkey man. Was smoking 1.5-2 packs a day and dropped them finally. I just had it in my head that I was willing to suffer over it and I did for about two weeks. My Mom smoked on and off for years (she quit when she had me and my brother and then started back) and I told her if she would quit I would quit as she hated me doing it. She got on Wellbutrin (sp?) and it helped her and when I noticed she was quit and holding I held up my end and dropped them cold. Like I said, after about 2 weeks to a month you will constantly crave and then it's gone. I actually still crave them maybe once a month now if that and it's been 11 years now. You get that smokers cough after a week or two and they say it's your lungs cleaning themselves of all the nicotine and crap. After the cough is gone it's gravy from there.
On the e-cigs I agree it has to be safer than cigs, but I think eventually everything is bad for you if you are inhaling it because of your lungs. I agree that marijuana is probably the safest thing to smoke but I think eventually you even have problems 20 years down the road as you don't smoke as many a day than cigs.

Just as an example of finding out what's really in our food, a health website recently had 75 brands of hot dogs analyzed. Turns out the in several companies that make chicken and beef dogs they found pork, and in 2% of them they found human DNA! (They recommend Hebrew National and other recognized brands as being safe.)
That's good to hear. You have a lot of willpower to be able to quit cold turkey.THAT addiction is powerful.Very few people ever defeat it.
F1, great article, it's puzzling how even hot dog makers are cheating.Hot Dogs and Sausages are one level above Spam..so it's eye opening that even those products are not being made to "standard" Interesting that article cites Hebrew National as being a safe brand of hot dog.
don't know if you remember this ad
So the fda mandated nutrition and ingredient labels are not regulated. wow. Scary stuff.
the marketing of e-cigs as safer alternative to cigarettes is misleading and because of this discussion I think they may pose as great a danger as regular cigs.
I think they caught on because of the indoor smoking bans that have taken place across the country. You can't smoke cigarettes in public places anymore..and the e-cigs are a loophole that allows smokers to smoke indoors.

I remember that one...the shorter version. Was watching a Rocky 4 this weekend while speaking to my younger cousin. Trying to explain to him how Cold War era depictions of Soviets in American media were. this ad was memorable.
I think hockey players dating Russian models is what finally killed the image from the Wendy's ad.
Wendy's had some great ads in the 1980s. where's the beef?

Yep gets you're right, they market it that way to get around the indoor smoking bans. I was actually surprised to see a guy smoking in the airport when I went to Denver over the summer. It wouldn't surprise me if the terrorists figure a way to smuggle a bomb on board with one like they did with coke cans.

thought about this thread when I saw the video....particularly your last comment about possibly bombs in the cigs
I usually don't laugh at other people in pain but THIS video is HILARIOUS!!!!!!
so Samsung is making e cigarettes now?
Guy is shaken up but definitely NOT hurt badly. He is smartly going to sue the manufacturer for a lot of money...so he's "having surgery" or whatever other lies his lawyer told the reporter. the accident happened ON CAMERA....so manufacturer doesn't have much wiggle room and will settle.

It's the lithium batteries. They're inherently dangerous. First we heard about exploding laptops, then cell phones and now ecigs. If they're manufactured cheaply or old, they'll overheat quickly and boom. So I can believe the guy got third degree burns. Second degree is just blistering, but this would definitely cause more serious burns. He'll get some serious money, and he'll deserve every penny.

On red meat my daughter never eats it and hates when we eat it.
I can take or leave eating it except pot roast I love pot roast the way my wife makes it. It melts in your mouth that is how good it is.
I like turkey meat better and it is better for you. I don't drink coffee I don't like it. I like the smell of coffee when you buy the beans and machine grind it into coffee. But as coffee I don't like it.
I used to drink alcohol but not much anymore. I might have a Bacardi cocktail one in a while. Hey I'm 76 and still do my share of fucking
I don't smoke cigs, but at 5 0clock in the morning before a drove home I liked a cigar. Stopped that years ago.
I don't eat hotdogs but my new daughter in law loves them. To each their own no?
Now I eat even better because one of my Grand daughter has to watch what she eats my little Mia. So I learned to eat what she eats you can get used to anything I have said that many times.
So when she comes her she eats what her mother wants her to eat. So I learned to eat what she eats so it makes her feel more comfortable when she comes here. I always tell her I love her above all others. But also tell her not to tell my other grand children that I said that. I tell that to my other grand children as well
My daughter just got her a dog. It is a mixed breed I forget the first half the second is a poodle. It does not shed and she can't be allergic to it. It is a cute dog.
You want to laugh my daughter is training the dog. She just started it a week a go.
She gives the dog a treat if the dog takes a shit on the wewe pad.
It is early in the morning and the dog walks into my daughters bedroom. My daughter wakes up to a shit smell. She thinks the dog had an accident in her bedroom. It turns out the dog pull the weewee pad into her room with his shit on it to show her he did it on the pad and get the treat.
Is that crazy or what?
only the unloved hate

You're right..the batteries. I heard the name of lawyer,Sanford Rubenstein and just thought this was a money grab. Very prominent and effective lawyer from this area. He does some good work but he's known for being an "Ambulance Chaser Emeritus". The thing is that so many devices use lithium batteries, I have to wonder what's causing just certain types of devices to ignite. I made the joke about Samsung making the e-cigs because their phones are exploding and were recalled.
Foot, Whenever I watch the shows about dogs, they always say that Poodles are among the smartest dogs, so the story of the half poodle doing that doesn't surprise me.
An off-duty Bronx EMT took an unexpected and unwanted ambulance ride when a pair of e-cigarette batteries exploded in his pants pocket.
Ricardo Jiminez, 24, suffered massive second-degree burns on his thigh and right hand last Friday after he felt a searing heat in his jeans pocket while driving through Manhattan to see his barber.
“I went to reach down to take the batteries out of my pocket and they just blew up,” the 24-year-old Jiminez told the Daily News. “There was smoke everywhere, like a fog in my car.
“(The batteries) were making little noises. Soon as that happened, I put my car in park, jumped out of the car, and a police officer saw me taking off my pants.”

The battery problem must be down to cheap copies or bad luck...I've had no problems at all. However, there must be some negative impact on health...if I've been on a night out and smoking it hard, next day do have to inhale a bit harder for a breath, nothing really serious though

Anytime you inhale a non-prescribed foreign substance into your lungs you're going to have problems. Not as bad as regular cigs, but do you really know ingredient? Not only that, but extreme heat from burning changes the chemical structure of the substance being burned. That's basic chemistry.

Further as well Faithful, you will tend to smoke ecigs far more than ordinary cigarettes....people might smoke a cigarettes every hour on average, give or take, and are under certain legal/social restrictions, however the ecig is basically as close as a mobile phone all the time and as easy to use
