Greene had requested Birns for a loan of $75,000. Greene wanted the money to set up a "cheat spot," a speakeasy and gambling house. Therefore, Birns had arranged a loan for Greene through the Gambino family. Somehow later, the money wound up in the hands of Billy Cox, a numbers operator, who used it to purchase narcotics. The police raided his house, arrested him, seized the narcotics and what was left of the $75,000. The Gambino family, from whom Birns had borrowed the loan, wanted their money. Birns pressed Greene but Greene flatly refused to return the money; instead asserting that it wasn't his fault that it got lost.
Soon after Birns gave 25000 $ to an hitman for kill Greene but all attempt was unsuccessfull and Greene made a bomb that killed Birns.

I know the story behind the incident, my question is who in the Gambino Family was it that Birns arranged the loan through. I'm aware Billy Cox was the courier Birns hired to pick up the money from New York for Danny Greene.
The general story seems repeated a lot but there is rarely deeper insight given as to who in the Gambino Family Birns would have associated with through loansharking, being a major national loanshark himself, he surely knew plenty. Moreover, he was more than aligned with the Cleveland Family who at the time was controlled by the Genovese Family.
So I'm just curious who pressed Birns on the original $75,,000 from the Gambino's because it would seem to have been a pure business decision that in turn set off the Greene Wars and the chain of events that lead to some of at the time the highest level informants ever, and the start of a decline of both Cleveland and LA most likely (but im not 100% certain) the loan came from Joseph "Demus" Covello, made guy in the NJ Gambino's. Demus worked closely with Pittsburgh, Youngstown and West Virginia through Joey Naples and Paul Hankish. Between Hankish, Naples, Frank Unis Jr and Patsy Feruccio, Demus was taking well over $20 million a month in action or laying off to Providence. Also, Peanuts was close to the Fat guy in Harlem from the Genovese's who actually represented Cleveland on the commission. And by the way, Greene was going to get killed by either Jack White or Angelo Lonardo, there was no way that those two were going to ever let Greene live, especially after the Ciasullo bombing

Ok Dino now I find that Joseph Covello was cited in the Pennsylvania 1990 crime report, for sure a better source than wikipedia. Now in the over 200 pagines isn't write that covello was the Gambino guys that give the cash to Bwins that ecc.
But all the men are dead, covello died in 1994. That all. You'll never find the answer Furio, that info won't be written anywhere
