Rego this is a good article, thanks for posting buddy reading it though, I'm a little confused, did Gotti make up that story that Carmine Persico was set to pull a Joe Bonnano and release a book and do a Primetime interview from Jail or was that a rumor out there in the underworld? Bc I have never heard that and I dont know much about the Persicos, but from the little I do know, that entire family is oldschool LCN and does not ever rat or say shit...I mean Carmine, Allie and Little Allie are all going to die in jail or have already died and they havent ever made a peep, plus all the cousins and sons, I dont think any of them have ever ratted right? Also, and idk if this is from that shithead Ed Scarpo or whatever his real name is, or if its from Scars, but it lists Gerry Langella as the Acting boss for Carmine from I believe 1972 until 1979? I thought it was said on here that Tom Dibella was not only acting, but official boss in most of the 70's until Carmine was released? any thoughts on this? Personally, I believe Carmine was always the boss from the day after Columbo got shot, he had so much power in that family, way more support than Dibello I believe, but thats just my 2 cents...

Dibella was the official boss from 74 to 80. Carmine was his official underboss and allie boy sr was the consig. Dibella was real close to the persicos and all there crew. Mike franses and greg scarpa jr both were inducted by dibella. Pmac, You're saying old Tom Dibella was official boss from 74 till 80? If he was, I'm pretty sure Persico still had the final say on matters. Dibella was old, and there were a way younger generation of Colombo's, such who had a lot of power such as Aloi, Persico, Langella, and Russo. What years was Persico actually out on the streets, and how respected was he by Castellano, Corallo, Salerno/Gigante and Rastelli?

Yea Pmac im gonna have to agree with Zavatonni here, I dont think youre correct that Dibella was the official boss then...Persico was the real power in that family then, and Ive only ever seen Dibella as acting at all..I buy the fact that Gerry Langella may not have been the acting boss at this time, but he was definitely underboss...But youre right about Dibella making Franzese and scarpa Jr..I looked back at the one mob doc I own with Michael Franzese as the main narrator and he classifies Dibella as the acting boss of our family at the time, so he may have been allowed to perform the ceremony, but Carmine definitely had the final say. Whats your thoughts and anyone elses on the other question about Persico agreeing to a primetime tell all interview? I think thats BS personally, but anyone ever heard that before?

But if DiBella was official boss until 1980, why didn't he get 100 years for the Galante murder on the commission trial, like all the others? I thought in 1979, when Galante was killed, Persico had already demoted DiBella but, if that's not the case, why was DiBella never indicted?

http://www.nytimes.com/1984/10/25/nyregi...ime-family.htmlThere's a 1984 article stating that Persico was the boss, Langella was underboss and Dibella was consigliere. I believe Dibella stepped down once Persico was out on the streets to serve in a advisory role. Dibella stepping down or being shoved aside with 'ease' shows that Persico had been running things since the death of Joe Colombo.

Still, Langella and Persico were indicted on the Commission trial, while DiBella wasn't. Why is that? The Lucchese administration for example, had all of the members indicted (boss, underboss, consigliere). The Gambinos on the other hand, didn't have the consigliere among the defendants either.

That's a good question. Only reason I'd think Dibella wasn't indicted on the commission trial was because of ill health and dying? By then has was atleast 80 years old. Still doesn't make sense though because some of the other defendants were ill to like Neil Dellacroce. Seems like several administration Consigliere's got sparred.

Thanks for posting. Cool to hear what Mikie Scars has to say.
And as far as the Colombo boss situation in the 70s goes, I'm gonna say DiBella was acting boss and Persico was the real boss. That's what Michael Franzese says anyway.
I don't know for certain, but I would guess that the reason the entire hierarchies of each family were not indicted in the Commission case was because they just didn't catch them in a Commission conspiracy. Castellano, Dellacroce, Salerno, Corallo, Santoro, Furnari and Langella were all caught on wiretap talking about Commission business. Persico was in prison, but I know they mentioned him on the wiretaps. I guess the other administration members just "missed out".

According to what scarpas telling the fbi gambino and funzi asked dibella to step up to create stability. He was a perisco guy and docks brooklyn. Carmine was front runner as boss but he just got sentence to 10 yrs in federal prison so dibella was used as a place holder by gambino so no one could make a move on the family. There was a bunch of acting bosses then they settle on dibella. Guess yacovelli did something and hd to run and never came back. His brother allie boy was secretly made in 72 when he got out of jail so they couldnt piss off the old guys and make him boss. Scarpa told feds carmine was made in the early 50tys. He said the joe and larry gallo were .made in 57 and it pisses alot of guys off. They werent lcn material. I read in the book by Folsom on the Gallos that Larry was made few years before Joey and everyone thought because of Joey's wildness he was on the junk. They took him to a hotel for several days to see if he showed signs of withdrawal if he passed he was made if not he wasn't. Carmine was tight with Gambino, if you look at old charts it has him listed as Gambino soldier and I am of the opinion Persico was a Gambino plant from beginning of the Gallo war and him switching sides was Gambino realizing their was to much heat coming down and making other plans to gain control of that and all the families.

@Pmac, Didn't Yacovelli run because he felt heat coming down on him due to him being involved in the death of Joe Gallo? I'v also read at one point he came back and served as a Captain or maybe a made guy. Never really got back to a top echelon position.
@Cleanbandit. I believe Persico was lying when he said he was involved in the death of Anastasia.

As far as Persico and Gambino relationship goes, Persico is also one of the named shooters in Anastasia hit, if I'm not mistaken. How did Gambino get Persico to become one of the shooters in the Anastasia hit? Through Joe Profaci?
