Cosimo Di Lauro died in prison on 13 June 2022, whilst under the 41-bis prison regime, as a result of physical deterioration. He was 48 years old.[15] Di Lauro's funeral was held in a private ceremony in Secondigliano on 21 June, 2022. According to the media, his brothers did not attend the funeral.[16][17]

Cosimo Di Lauro, the first ambush of the 'black prince' against a Licciardi man

Salvatore Tamburrino and Cosimo Di Lauro
According to a repentant, the boss's baptism of fire against Lomasto
There are moments when criminal history jumps the border and overflows into the epic. And there are characters who take the same path, sometimes even without wanting to. It's a question of charisma. Criminal, of course. Cosimo Di Lauro was one of these. Media-oriented, ferocious, vengeful. It is said that he was the director of that Camorra massacre that is remembered as the First Feud of Scampia. Using capital letters, because when history becomes epic, the moment of antonomasia also arrives. Like his father. "Much tougher than his father," said some repentant.

The young boss's ruthless strategy
The Feud, the Rebels and the Baptism of Fire
The young boss's ruthless strategy

The proud look of the boss who doesn't feel defeated even when he is taken out of the house he had chosen as a refuge for his time as a fugitive in handcuffs. His black eyes are fixed, as if motionless, towards the cameras and the photographers' lenses. Jeans, leather jacket and black sweater. This is how everyone remembers his image. The change of direction given by the management of Cosimo Di Lauro when he took over from his father Paolo was evident.

Previously, all the subgroups had a broad level of management autonomy, but they had two obligations towards the Di Lauro family: they had to buy drugs from them and then pay 50 thousand euros a week for each of the 20 drug dealing areas.

The young Di Lauro changed the game: he demanded that all the underbosses become paid employees of the clan. And faced with the protests of some, he began to replace the forty or fifty year old area bosses with new bosses, twenty or thirty at most: a generational change perhaps never seen before in the criminal history of Naples. The sons replaced the fathers and the fathers rebelled.

The Feud, the Rebels and the Baptism of Fire
Cosimino's strategy, as told by the latest collaborators of justice, was also explained by the first great accuser of the Secondigliano mala, Pietro Esposito, who spoke of a "rejuvenation of the clan, whose members" should have been at most thirty years old. In a wiretap, it was written that Cosimo wanted to launch a counteroffensive to the point of starting a war. Sending for the rebels one by one. Also hitting them with bombs.

The two intercepted met again a few days later and talked about the young boss whom they called "an excellent leader". Then, during the conversation, reference was made to the organization of fire groups composed of five or six people who hid in houses and waited for the signal to strike the enemies. The goal was to strike first.

The last repentant of the Di Lauro clan, Salvatore Tamburrino, also spoke about Cosimo . For years he was part of the family and 'guardian' of Marco Di Lauro 's fugitive status until March 2, 2019 when, after killing his wife with gunshots, to ease his position, he revealed the boss's hideout, who was tracked down within an hour. He commanded the clan in the 2004 feud - explains Tamburrino who adds - Materially, as a boy, Cosimo would have only committed the attempted murder of Giuseppe Lomasto, an affiliate of the Licciardi, who did not die.

That would have been the first ambush, the baptism of fire for the black prince of Cupa dell'Arco. Numerous collaborators of justice, instead, spoke of ambushes and crimes ordered by Cosimo, filling dozens of pages of reports. This was how the black prince of Secondigliano fought his war against the federation of rebels.

In the year of the Corleonesi massacres, Paolo Di Lauro fought the first Camorra feud
By Enzo Amato
January 2, 2025

The war between Ciruzzo 'o Milionario and the Mugnano separatist group headed by Antonio Ruocco dates back to 1992
1992 was not only the year of the judicial revolution of Tangentopoli. It was not only the most brutal moment of the Corleonesi's massacre strategy. It was also the year in which, for the first time, Paolo Di Lauro 's criminal empire was called into question. 1992 was the year of the first real feud fought by the clan of the boss of Secondigliano against a separatist group, the one headed by Antonio Ruocco. The boss, a fine diplomat, managed to sit at the tables of the big bosses of the 1980s, and in the 1990s, obtaining the support - judicial chronicles tell - of criminal families of the caliber of the Nuvolettas of Marano and the D'Alessandros of Castellammare di Stabia.

The trail of blood
The split of the split

Even Gennaro Licciardi, the late founder of the Secondigliano Alliance, was on good terms with Ciruzzo 'o milionario. Before the bloody war with the secessionists, his leadership was undermined by a secessionist movement that, in that case too, came from the hinterland. In particular, from Mugnano. A question of money, needless to say. Ruocco, former area leader of the organization in Mugnano, decided to march alone and there was war. A bloody conflict that ended with the massacre at the Bar Fulmine in Secondigliano and with the repentance of Ruocco himself. Numerous ordinances were also issued for the crimes of that feud.

The trail of blood
Starting with the murder of Antonio Ruocco and Giuseppe Vallefuoco (in June 1991); the murder of Elena Moxedano, and the attempted murder of her husband Sebastiano Ruocco, brother of the collaborator of justice Antonio, (19 October 1991); the double murder of Annibale Cirillo and Luigi Pirozzi, (25 March 1992); the murder of Biagio Ronga, uncle of Antonio Ruocco, (16 May 1992); the murder of Angela Ronga, mother of Antonio Ruocco, (25 May 1992); the murder of Alfredo Negri, who had supported Ruocco in the feud (Negri was tortured and burned alive on 27 July 1992); the murder of Rocco Capuozzo, known as Rocchino, (13 April 1993); the murder of Pasquale Capuozzo, (9 May 1993).

Read also: Cosimo Di Lauro, the first ambush of the 'black prince' against a Licciardi man
Many collaborators of justice, such as Antonio Prestieri, Antonio Pica, and Giuseppe Misso jr, 'o chiatto, have also spoken of those crimes and that forgotten war. A war, the one with the Ruoccos, which ended with the victory of the Di Lauros who, twelve years later, had to face another feud, a clash of much more significant dimensions, the one with the 'Spanish'.

The split of the split
The secessionists emerged victorious from that conflict and dictated the rules of the armistice. A few more years and the secessionist federation also split. The two-headed monster of the Amato-Pagano family also had an internal fracture. The Paganos, who in Mugnano would have had contacts with members of the old Ruocco family, would have tried to expand also in Melito, a municipality that the Amatos have always considered 'their exclusive property'. Those disagreements have been healed. In Secondigliano the cold winds of the Camorra wars and the raids have crystallized the clans in their positions. Nothing is moving. But for some it is only an apparent calm.

'Ngopp Miano Boss Tried to Escape to Switzerland, Caught After 7 Months
Internapoli Editorial Team

Boss Oscar Pecorelli attempted to escape to Switzerland, captured after 7 months. Today the personnel of the State Police, with the assistance of the Cantonal Police, arrested him in the city of Sion. The clan leader of the 'Ngopp Miano group, last June, had evaded capture by going into hiding when the order for the application of the precautionary custodial measure was executed, issued by the GIP Office of the Court of Naples, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Naples, District Anti-Mafia Directorate, against 17 individuals considered to be responsible in various capacities for mafia-type association, murder, assault, firing of gunshots in a public place, carrying and possession of common and war weapons, extortion and possession of narcotics, committed to facilitate the Lo Russo clan and with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method.

The criminal groups of Scognamiglio and Pecorelli
The investigative activity, conducted by the operators of the "Capturandi" Section of the Naples Flying Squad and the Scampia Police Station, in collaboration with the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police, the Service for International Police Cooperation and the Central Operations Service, had allowed the collection from February 2021 to 2022 of evidentiary elements regarding the existence, structure and operation of the Scognamiglio and Pecorelli criminal groups, heirs of the Lo Russo clan.

The war for the control of Miano
The same, with extremely ferocious criminal actions, including several murders, competed for leadership in the Neapolitan neighborhoods of Miano, Chiaiano, Piscinola and Marianella.
The conflict between the two factions had caused enormous social alarm, as mentioned, by virtue of the numerous murders and shootings, recorded in the disputed territories and listed below:
• The murder of Milano Salvatore, a historic member of the Lo Russo Clan, which occurred on April 22, 2021;
• The murder of Avolio Antonio, which occurred on June 24, 2021;
• The wounding of Di Caprio Salvatore, which occurred on June 10, 2021;
• the assault committed on March 29, 2021 against some employees of the Monaldi Hospital in Naples, following a "military raid" on the hospital, carried out by a compliant employee and for reasons related to the buying and selling of jobs in favor of individuals close to the clan;
• the extortion of the owner of a bar in the Miano district which took place in August 2021;
• the seizure of the clan's arsenal of common and war weapons;
• The firing of gunshots in a public place, carrying and possession of common and war weapons in relation to the shootings of 06.10.2021, 06.16.2021, 06.17.2021, 07.08.2021, 08.09.2021.

Following intensive and continuous investigations coordinated by the Naples DDA and carried out by the aforementioned investigative offices, today, after approximately 7 months on the run, Pecorelli was arrested pursuant to a European arrest warrant, awaiting extradition to Italy.

Former repentant superboss Vincenzo Sarno arrested: 'The Mayor' is accused of murder
From
Internapoli Editorial Team

It is Vincenzo Sarno, known as 'o Sindaco, the collaborator of justice arrested by the Flying Squad of Naples on charges of murder aggravated by mafia methods.

Sarno, head of the clan of the same name from the early 1990s until 2010, is said to have instigated and carried out the murder of Gerardo Tubelli , which took place in Cercola on 5 January 1996: the victim was surprised near his home by a fire commando, of which the former boss was said to have been a part.

The investigations, conducted by the DDA, have reconstructed the dynamics and responsibilities relating to the murder, providing objective evidence to the statements made in this regard by numerous collaborators of Justice, including the self-incriminating ones made by Vincenzo 'O Sindaco himself.

The former boss had long since begun a fruitful phase of collaboration with the justice system, but recently his dangerousness had once again been discovered. Following a very recent check by the police, the man was found in possession of a gun and reported.

Furthermore, according to the statements of some collaborators of justice, Vincenzo Sarno would be constantly present in Naples, also with the intent of recovering sums of money that he himself would have entrusted in the past to third parties before starting his path of collaboration with Justice.

The murder of Gerardo Tubelli, dating back to almost 30 years ago, led to the arrest carried out yesterday by the Naples Flying Squad. But there is another investigation hanging over the head of Vincenzo Sarno and it concerns decidedly more recent facts: he was ready to return to his neighborhood to rebuild the clan, ready, investigators believe, "to kill women and children" to take revenge on rivals and to reunite what remains of the criminal group that once was "master" of Ponticelli.
The investigations revealed that Sarno was in contact with some members believed to be close to the 'ndrangheta Arena clan of Isola Capo Rizzuto.

Anti-Camorra Blitz Between Frattamaggiore and Frattaminore: 20 Arrests. “Pezzella” Clan Destroyed

The suspects are considered seriously suspected of crimes related to organized crime, in particular the “Pezzella” clan, active between Fratta and Crispano. The charges include mafia-style criminal association, robbery, extortion – both attempted and completed – in addition to the possession and illegal possession of clandestine firearms, receiving stolen goods and crimes related to drug trafficking . All the crimes contested are aggravated by the objective of favoring a mafia-style association.

Investigators have ascertained the operation of the criminal association, active in the extortion sector against entrepreneurs and shopkeepers. The use of weapons to assert itself against other rival clans, such as the Cristiano-Mormile, has been documented. The investigations have also reconstructed the entrepreneurial capabilities of the gang linked to the marketing of drugs such as cocaine and hashish in the areas of Frattaminore and Frattamaggiore.

I want to say something in response to a Reddit comment I saw on a Camorra bust. The bust was this one:

In late April, Italian anti-mafia police arrested 21 members of the so-called “Sibillo gang”. The rising Camorra clan has been asserting its control over a number of central districts in Naples over the last decade, dealing drugs, racketeering, extorting money from shop owners and punishing those who don’t submit.

The clan is called “Paranza dei bambini” (“fishing trawler of children,” which refers to a criminal group led by youngsters), or Piranhas. It was founded by “baby boss” Emanuele Sibillo, who died in an ambush by rival gangs in 2015, aged 19.

After his death, Sibillo became a saint-like figure throughout Naples, and tributes were made in several neighbourhoods. During the police operation in April, an altar with his ashes was found in the courtyard of his family’s home in the Forcella district of Naples.

The plasterboard bust portrayed Sibillo in his signature look – footballer haircut, long beard and dark framed glasses – which helped to popularise him among Gen Z Camorra mobsters. According to witnesses, his clan even forced local shop owners to kneel in front of the bust after paying the “pizzo” (protection money), as a sign of submission and respect.

To which someone said:

"This is really just typical gang behavior tbh. Just bc it’s Italians they slap mafia on it. Almost every major city in America you can find a bunch of gang members running around with t shirts and cut outs and all kinds of stuff commemorating their dead friends. Like making a dude bow down to a bust is a new one but this is really just common gang behavior in 2025."

Now while I completely see where he's going with this and for the most part I agree, I have to disagree as well. For one thing, it says that they were extorting money from shopkeepers. There's the extortion component. I just can't see any American street gang in any major city with enough juice to extort money from legitimate store owners, unless you're the government of course. So in that respect, even the most street gang-like Camorra clans in Italy are still a step above any American street gang. I'm commenting here because I can't comment on Reddit.

Let me backtrack, if some small business owners were caught in some compromising positions or if they themselves were doing illegal things, I could see that making them susceptible to extortion here with American gangs.

Four people believed to be linked to the Casalesi clan were arrested by the State Police because they were definitively sentenced to a total of 35 years of imprisonment for various crimes, including extortion, assault and possession of weapons, committed using mafia methods.

The detention orders were issued by the Criminal Enforcement Office of the Attorney General of the Republic at the Court of Appeal of Naples, and carried out by the police officers of the Caserta and Varese Mobile Squads, as well as the Sessa Aurunca Police Station.

The names of those arrested
In particular, the 65-year-old former Cutoliano Michele Giuliano Aria, his sons Armando, 43, and Michele Jr, 37, and the 64-year-old Francesco Faella were arrested ; only the 37-year-old Michele Aria was captured in Venegono Superiore in the province of Varese, where he had a job, the other three between Teano and Vairano Patenora.

The convictions are the result of investigations by the Caserta Flying Squad, which shed light on the criminal dynamics of the group led by 65-year-old Michele Giuliano Aria, who between 2016 and 2019 extorted large sums from some traders in Teano.

“We are Cutoliani”, the threats of the affiliates of the Casalesi clan
To force them to pay, Aria senior and his sons in particular presented themselves as people linked to the boss Raffaele Cutolo and the Casalesi clan , carrying out threats, verbal and physical aggression, including with baseball bats, as well as damage to commercial activities. The collaboration of the extortion victims proved decisive for the start of the investigations. The people, following the formalities, were associated with the Santa Maria Capua Vetere and Varese prisons.
