Camporeale, anti-mafia blitz, six arrests

Camporeale (Palermo) – Six arrests were made by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Nucleus of the Monreale Group. The precautionary custody measures in prison were issued by the investigating judge of Palermo at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, for mafia-type criminal association.

The Camporeale mafia family was hit, whose leaders, despite already being in prison, managed to maintain firm control of the group and the management of illegal business, thanks to the collaboration of affiliates and family members.

Mafia influence would also have been evident in the buying and selling, at a fixed price, of cattle and sheep destined for slaughter. Furthermore, the investigation allowed the Carabinieri to reconstruct cases in which even ordinary citizens would have turned to the clan to obtain prior authorization to purchase agricultural land, to recover credit from insolvent debtors and to settle disputes that arose between private individuals. A power of control also in the management of agricultural land in the Camporealese area, authorizing or denying the use of land for grazing. Finally, a municipal employee would have falsely certified the punctual fulfillment by two members of the local mafia family of the obligations deriving from the "probation". Under investigation the mayor Luigi Cino.

A raid and a secret tape exposed a Sicilian mafia that is shrunken, whiny and clinging on for survival
John Dickie

A historic number of arrests were made, but the days of targeted murder or massive political influence are long gone

Palermo has not seen anything like it for years. Helicopters in the pre-dawn sky. Carabinieri barracks across Sicily emptied, with all 1,200 officers deployed. The Cacciatori – red-bereted shock cops – brought over from the wilds of Calabria. The Carabinieri’s own film units serving up a morning montage of flashing blue lights, balaclava-wearing officers with submachine guns, police dogs sniffing, cottage doors breaking, and burly, handcuffed men ushered into Alfa Romeos. And then, of course, in the press, the humiliating wiretaps of gangsters sharing their secrets. Cosa Nostra is back in the headlines, and back under the cosh.

Sounds like typical government braggadocio. It's almost like they don't want to admit that Cosa Nostra is still powerful despite over 30 years of hard government struggle.

And it are still the same players/families lol.

Gaspare Ofria nephew of the well-known mafia boss Gaetano Badalamenti has been arrested in Sofia, Bulgaria. Ofria, sentenced to six years and eight months in prison, had been a fugitive for approximately two years. In 2023, he was sentenced to serve a cumulative sentence relating to previous sentences, including one for fraudulent bankruptcy in competition, another for illicit use of credit cards in competition and a final one for violation of family support obligations.

after all, Cosa Nostra is the oldest criminal organization still active and has demonstrated unparalleled long-term resilience, it no longer has the power of the 70s and 80s but still remains a threat today

Palermo, the prosecutor de Lucia: "There is a new generation of mafiosi"

ROME – “There is a new wave of mafiosi and potential mafiosi that is gaining ground, asserting their power both in prison and outside.” Palermo prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia explains this to Corriere della Sera.

“Fortunately, the reforms have not affected investigations into the mafia and terrorism, including wiretapping. And the interventions on life imprisonment without parole are proving effective,” he continues. “Another issue is the granting of reward permits to convicts who have not dissociated themselves from Cosa Nostra and who, returning to the territory, re-immerse themselves in their criminal reality; it is a phenomenon that must be monitored carefully because it is becoming widespread.”

Mafia and politics, blitz in Catania: regional deputy and city councilor also in prison

Precautionary measures against 19 suspects accused of typical mafia crimes but also of vote-trading

Anti-mafia blitz in Catania where the Carabinieri of the ROS carried out an operation against the Cosa Nostra of Catania that also involves politics: the regional deputy Giuseppe Castiglione and the municipal councilor of Misterbianco Matteo Marchese also ended up in handcuffs.

The operation was carried out in the provinces of Catania and Syracuse. The Special Operations Group of the Arma executed a precautionary measure against 19 suspects.

An order was issued against them by the investigating judge of Catania, at the request of the local district prosecutor's office, which hypothesizes, to varying degrees, the crimes of mafia-type association, extortion, drug trafficking and dealing, fraudulent transfer of assets and mafia-related electoral exchange.

In conjunction with the precautionary measures, within the same operation called Mercurio, a decree of preventive seizure of companies and assets for a value of 300 thousand euros is being executed. The measure is being carried out by the Ros with the support in the executive phase of the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Catania, the helicopter squadron Cacciatori Sicilia and the XII helicopter nucleus of the Arma.

Nicola Accardo, cl. 1965, is the head of the Partanna mafia family.

«Favorants of Messina Denaro», Urso and Accardo return to prison
by Editorial Staff

February 24, 2025

The Carabinieri of Trapani, assisted by the military of Turin and La Spezia, have executed the prison order against Raffaele Urso, 66 years old, and Nicola Accardo, 60, alleged supporters of the mafia boss Messina Denaro.

The Attorney General of the Court of Appeal had appealed after the release of the two, last October, due to the expiration of the maximum terms of pre-trial detention. Urso and Accardo had been arrested as part of the anti-mafia operation Anno Zero to dismantle the network of supporters of the then fugitive Matteo Messina Denaro. After their release, the two were subjected, in Turin and La Spezia, to the precautionary measures of the obligation to report to the judicial police, a ban on leaving the country and a ban on residing in Sicily.

Are Cosa Nostra of different provinces ultimately part of the same organization? For example Cosa Nostra Palermo and Cosa Nostra Catania?

Old and new bosses, the candidate for the elections: who risks conviction

PALERMO – The list of defendants opens with Giuseppe Arduino. He risks 20 years in prison. Released in 2020 after nine years, he would have taken over the reins of the Brancaccio district. The Prosecutor's Office requested the heaviest sentence for him at the end of the prosecution's closing speech by public prosecutor Francesca Mazzocco.

The requests for punishment

These are the other requests for sentences: Alessio Salvo Caruso 10 years (who escaped the ambush in which Giancarlo Romano was killed), Giuseppe Chiarello 10 years, Damiano Corrao 10 years, Sebastiano Giordano 10 years, Antonio Mazzè 6 years, Settimo Turturella 8 years and 8 months, Vincenzo Vella 20 years, Giovanni Iannitello 4 years and 4 months, Giulio Matranga 7 years, Francesco Lombardo 7 years.

“Pact for Votes”

Lombardo was a candidate for the city council in the administrative elections of June 12, 2022 , on the Fratelli d'Italia list. In competition with Vincenzo Vella, of the Corso dei Mille clan, they are accused of political-mafia vote exchange. The request for electoral support was revealed by a Trojan placed on the boss's phone, who had recently been released from prison on a technicality after a 20-year sentence for mafia association.

“Can you get me about twenty votes?” Lombardo said. “You personally, yes,” Vella replied. According to the prosecution, Lombardo, who is a surveyor by profession, knew the criminal depth of Vella, who had already been arrested several times in the past, and would have put his availability on the table: “Haven’t I always made myself available to you guys regardless of politics?”

Vella reassured him: “You’ll take all of ours .” “If I go up there… I’m in the urban planning commission, in urban planning… I’m in private construction, you understand that as soon as there’s a problem here I… and you call me,” Lombardo concluded in front of a fruit and vegetable stall on Corso dei Mille.

The Boss Killed

They were all involved in the blitz coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Marzia Sabella and the substitutes Francesca Mazzocco, Gaspare Spedale and Giacomo Brandini.

Giancarlo Romano, murdered by Camillo Mira, a self-confessed criminal ( he allegedly shot to avoid being killed ) was considered a “rising star of the Brancaccio mandamento”. His name should have been on the list of those arrested, but he was killed before the raid. The day he was killed, he had gone to claim the fee imposed on the Mira family who ran the betting ring. The cameras captured scenes from the Wild West.

The investigation focused on the families of Brancaccio, Roccella-Guarnaschelli and Corso dei Mille. Hotels, machine shops, bars, street food vendors: the pizzo was paid across the board. Once again, as had emerged in the past, silence reigned among economic operators who consider extortion as the lesser evil or, even, a gesture of solidarity. People pay out of fear, but also out of convenience and connivance.

A dozen extortions reconstructed by investigators. There are only three victims who are civil parties: the building contractor Giuseppe Piraino, the owners of the building that houses a hotel and the head of a construction site who received a visit from the men of the racket.

So the killing of Giancarlo Romano wasn't even a mob hit? The Mafia looks so weak today.

And from the sound of things, he was a member killed by a non-member. But it's hard to get much out of these poorly translated articles.

Freemasonry, "Artemisia" investigation: 115 years of prison requested
According to the accusations, the secret Masonic lodge would have manipulated nominations, diverted funding and intervened in the administrative decisions of the Municipality

by Editorial Staff

February 28, 2025

The Trapani Prosecutor's Office has requested 155 years in prison for the defendants in the trial resulting from the "Artemisia" operation, conducted in 2020 by the Trapani Carabinieri. For the former regional deputy Giovanni Lo Sciuto, the prosecutor Sara Morri has requested 14 years in prison, eight years for Paolo Genco, former president of Anfe, a professional training body, and six years for the former mayor Felice Errante.

The investigation, the magistrates claim, had revealed the existence of a secret Masonic lodge in Castelvetrano involving professionals, politicians and members of the police force. According to the accusations, the secret Masonic lodge would have steered appointments, diverted funding and would have intervened in the administrative decisions of the Municipality.

Always was and always will be, those guys rarely see any jail time. I remember few years ago 'Ndrangheta boss was caught on tape saying things about P3/P4. So who knows what is going on.

Also during stato-mafia 'Ndrangheta trial several witnesses said: "Real power behind 'Ndrangheta are people that don't even have a parking ticket".

There was an article 1 year ago later removed.

Mafia and freemasonry, in the lodges of Trapani and Palermo now the bosses send the 'avatars'
Goodbye status symbol: Prosecutor De Lucia in the Anti-Mafia Commission says that the replacement with trustworthy men now makes the direct entry of godparents into Masonic temples superfluous. How does the external competition change.

Mafia, blow to the Mazzei clan: 18 people arrested

CATANIA – The charges, to varying degrees, are those of “mafia-style criminal association, extortion, trafficking and possession for the purpose of dealing in narcotics, the latter aggravated by mafia methods”. A heavy blow inflicted, from the early hours of the morning, on the Mazzei clan.

The order of precautionary custody was issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Catania against 18 people. The investigations revealed "a vast extortion ring against local entrepreneurs. A flourishing drug trafficking and an activity of control of the area of ??influence of the clan".

AGRIGENTO – Blitz in Agrigento. The Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit, under the command of Colonel Vincenzo Bulla, carried out a new operation this morning against the mafia clans of Villaseta and Porto Empedocle. The operation represents the natural development of the twenty-four arrests made less than a month ago. There are fifty-one suspects. Thirty-six of them have been ordered to be held in prison, while another fifteen have been ordered to be held in house arrest.

The provision is signed by the investigating judge of the Palermo court, Antonella Consiglio, at the request of the deputy prosecutor Sergio Demontis and the substitutes Claudio Camilleri, Giorgia Righi and Luisa Bettiol. The charges – in various capacities – are mafia-style criminal association, criminal association aimed at drug trafficking, extortion, possession of weapons. Many of the suspects are already in prison because they were reached, just three weeks ago, by a precautionary measure.

Villaseta supplied drugs to Palermo gangs: clan leaders arrested (again)
In the major operation against the mafia mandamenti of Palermo, the handcuffs were snapped on (again) the bosses of the Villaseta gang

Drugs from Villaseta reached the heart of Palermo. An almost singular fact that would testify to the leading role assumed by the Agrigento clans in the field of drug trafficking. This is what emerges from the maxi anti-mafia operation launched against Palermo's Cosa Nostra . Four mandamenti dismantled, 181 people arrested. Among these - recipients of an arrest warrant - there are also the leaders of the Villaseta clan. These are Pietro Capraro, 39 years old, considered the boss of the local family; Gaetano Licata, 41 years old, considered Capraro's lieutenant; Gabriele Minio, 36 years old, believed to be affiliated with the clan. All had been arrested in recent weeks by the Agrigento carabinieri as part of the operation against the Porto Empedocle/Villaseta clans.

Today comes a new arrest warrant in the maxi investigation of the Palermo District Anti-Mafia Directorate. According to what emerges from the investigations, coordinated by the prosecutor Maurizio De Lucia and the deputy Marzia Sabella, the leaders of the Villaseta clan would have had constant relationships and discussions with members of the San Lorenzo mafia mandamento , now led by the Serio brothers, lieutenants of the boss Salvatore Lo Piccolo. Capraro, Licata and Minio are accused - specifically - of having sold several batches of drugs, for a total amount of 384 thousand euros, to the bosses of the San Lorenzo/Tommaso Natale mafia mandamento: the brothers Domenico and Nunzio Serio, Francesco Stagno and Mario Ferrazzano.
