Interesting , so the South African gangsters are member of a gang and the numbers. It make sense, just like many gangsters in California.

Africa has many countries with strong organized crime groups, Nigeria, Morocco and South Africa.

We know that the Moccro Mafia and the Nigerian Mafia are actives in many continents.
But what about the South African organized crime ?

Two cousins of alleged 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield were shot dead recently. Stanfield, who, together with his wife Nicole Johnson, has been in state custody since their arrest at their home in the upmarket suburb of Constantia at the end of September. Stanfield was the leader of The Firm, a gang conglomerate with a heavy 28s membership. Stanfield’s uncle Colin Stanfield was believed to have been the leader of The Firm before his death in 2004.

The West African route has been very important for a long time now. Bribery will get you everywhere.

Thus far, the Nigerians are the only ones out of West Africa that have managed to spawn serious criminal organizations. They are active in most key countries and have major stakes in countries beyond West Africa as well. In South Africa for instance they are the major distributors of cocaine and heroin. The "local" South African gangs like in Cape Town are mostly bums stuck in the Flats who keep to selling mandrax; often even in order to fuel their own drug habit. The Nigerians on the other hand have above averagely sophisticated and organized networks and they make lots of money.

I'd say the Cape Verdeans have their networks as well, but moreso in their diaspora communities. In Portugal they control a lot of the drug trade. In the south of Belgium, Rotterdam and Switzerland there have also been drug busts connected to figures from the Cape Verdean community. It's definitely not as widespread as the Nigerians and it's very much localized to areas with a Cape Verdean community - whereas the Nigerian criminals go literally everywhere even when there's no Nigerian community to speak of - but you can definitely detect CV networks active in the international cocaine trade.

The New England region in the United States, especially the cities of Boston and Brockton in Massachusetts and the Rhode Island state, is home to a sizeable Cape Verdean community. Several of the region's neighborhoods are home to street gangs. While larger and more structured gangs exist, a notable example is the gang named Cape Verdean Outlaws,[15] the vast majority of the Cape Verdean street gangs are based and named after their respective neighborhoods such as the Hendry Street Gang and the Woodward Avenue Gang.[16] These gangs sometimes cooperate, but also often rival with each other leading to murder and violent clashes over turf.[17][18][19]

The level of organization and sophistication is varying, with several gangs seldom extending beyond local crimes and drug dealing, while some others are involved in large-scale drug trafficking enterprises,[20] as well as extortion, money laundering and strong-arm jobs for locally active American Mafia crews.[21]
