Poor guy. Should have taken the plea deal. Glad he is out. 50 years seems too much.

You never know.. but yeah I agree, Imagine doing 50 fucking years, or 30 or 20 for that matter. Nothing is ever the same anymore... some people can do time easy, some can't, not without going nuts or completely changing who they are.
-I shot him a coupla' times. -What's a couple? -Hmm, more than a couple... Really I don't know the exact amount, maybe I shot him 10 times, 12 times? -Maybe fifteen? -Hmm, it could've been fifteen...

He's 73. Done 28 years. He was a drug dealer. Not sure what he is coming back to crime wise. A lot has changed.
Doing 28 years and supporting his family. And he paid lawyers. I wonder how much money he really has. It's easy to think he's rich but Gangsters love to spend too. He could be broke too.

can anyone recommend the book written about his brother? the author's massino book was great, and im interested in charlie, john and mobsters from Queens in general. need a new book to read. anyone read it?
not a lot out there about John Carneglia other than him being a big dope guy (along with mark reiter and angelo ruggerio's brother ) and a gotti crew member. supposedly always a big money guy. i think the carnegilas were childhood friends of the gottis, all from east NY originally
who knows what carneglia's role in the family will be. same with gene gotti. all the old 1970s/80s queens guys. its a different city and different world now. gambino family is a lot younger and a lot more european now.
i doubt there would be a lot of room for someone like John in this day and age. think about it. you come out of jail as an old man after serving decades you got nothing but your reputation and whatever money you have stashed away. his whole criminal network, people he'd make money off of or make money with, are dead, in jail or moved on. think he's still plugged into the heroin scene at high levels anymore? with the dominicans and fentanyl running things in NYC. think he'd still be able to get a viable group of loanshark customers? maybe he can "invest"'in someone else's loan book or bankroll other stuff. scrapyard? even that industry has changed. whatever property he owned in queens prob quadrupled in value. he should sell it and retire. its always sad when these old guys come out of jail to a brand new world and get back into the mix
i know these guys are born gangsters and never stop hustling and scheming, but the world is so different now. nyc especially. these guys are dinosaurs. they're gonna come back to their old neighborhoods and feel like they woke up in outer space. i dont see how its possible or viable for guys like this to come out of jail and make any money on the street, using the same hustles they were using 30 years ago. its gotta be a rough life

@Mikey
In Sammys book, when he talks about the team of shooters, and the backup teams, didn't he say only one of em, John Carneglia was a made guy? I forget, I got to get to my copy of Underboss....
@pmac
I used to try to explain this stuff to IveyLeague, but he wasn't really hearing me. The Dominicans have the best DISTRIBUTION in NY, this is why they seem to always bubble to the top in the NYC drug trade. They got what Nicky Barnes had in Harlem, and what the East Harlem, Pleaseant Ave mafia crews had before him, going back to Ormento, control of open air markets at the street level, operating in ethnic enclaves providing a measure of security and safety.
(You seen the movie Carlitos Way, how the Puerto Ricans were moving the dope for the mafia, now it's just Dominicans moving Colombian work, most likely Mexican heroin. The Mexicans have tried to push into NY distribution, there was the bust in the Bronx and the big one in Buffalo if you remember, but they are a long way from home. I suspect this is why at one time they were based in Chicago, there are Tons of Mexican and Latino traffickers here to do business with, but then the Flores twins happened, so I'm guessing the Chi became too hot, they had to look elsewhere..)
On top of this, their country, though it doesn't produce any of these drugs, is KEY to shipping this stuff through the Caribbean.
Don't take this the wrong way my man, but ONLY a New Yorker would rate the Crea case the same as El Chapo, lol!! He's too big a fish to give ANY plea to, unless he's gonna give up some more guys in Mexico.
The one guy who surrendered in San Diego was a rival of his sons I think, Chapo better hope the guy doesn't flip, maybe he already has...

Cabrini- thank youuu thats where i remember reading that john was a made guy! Shit was driving me nuts dude. So thats the case hes a made guy. Was he in Genes crew? With him coming out whos cree does everyone think hell be in!? And on a related note, does anyone think Gene will be put back to Capo rank? Where is Richard Gotti in the hierarchy of the family? Thought i remembered reading that he was just a soldier who was basically like shunned bc he was a Gotti and also a Drunk?

You would have to beat Ivy League across the face with an FBI report before he would even come close to believing shit that Ray Charles could see if he stepped on the street for a second. Dominicans run the dope game from Jersey to Maine and everywhere in between. These guys have been making boatloads of money and they have smart older guys putting that money to work, it's not just street corner gangs. These are organized, international DTO's with product to move and the muscle to protect it.

John Carneglia is definitely made. Not only made but Gene and him should be taken care of when time is right , no way the Gambinos leave them out to dry . That would say fuck anyone that does time .
