I'm really surprised that a movie about John Gotti directed by "E" from Entourage is struggling.

i had extremely low expectations for this. and at this point the gotti saga has been told to the public ad nasuem , to the point where there wouldnt be anything new, surprising, or different about this picture to even the most casual watcher of mob history and pop culture.

but still, with that said, I was really looking forward to seeing this in the theater. they got some nice theaters out there now. iPic theater, the AMCs with the reclining seats.. its a nice experience and a change of pace from say, binge watching via a streaming service at home.

what a shame. travolta looked like he played a good Gotti. the trailer didnt look THAT bad, even if they did use Cincinnati as a stand in for Ozone Park

Agree, tt. I don't see how this even tops the HBO movie from 20 years ago. I could see if Scorsese or someone got behind it, but come on. The Gotti story just does not hold up. It's a '90s story that ran its course. That lame tv movie based on Gravano's book starring John Turturro's low rent Joe Pesci little brother should have been the curtain call for the Gotti saga.

Sounds like the film probably wasn't really good. Ultimately, it is going to be compared with the Pantheon - Goodfellas, Godfather, Donnie Brasco, etc. etc.

It might be a case of the Hollywood spin machine attempting to put a silver lining on the situation but according to this article the film has been bought back from Lionsgate and will see a wide release in theaters. They say that the new owners want to screen the film at Cannes. Could be BS but maybe waiting until after the glut of big budget Holiday films thins out is a good plan.

I'm going to watch it either way as I'm a sucker for this kinda stuff - after all I visit this site almost daily. Truth is I kinda hoped it would go straight to DVD or streaming so I could enjoy it at home as much (or little) as I want.
