Good question. A lot of people wondered why. But at the time, and even today, there were many who thought Wall simply missed the limelight. He was pushed out of the rackets ten years prior, and went from being a celebrity of sorts in Tampa to just another old man around town. And when you read his testimony, it had a lot of information about the 1920s/30s era, but not much in the way of contemporary activities. But his appearance did generate lots of news locally and renewed interest in Wall. Didn't do much to change his status, though.
t's interesting that when he was killed in his bedroom, there was a copy of Kefauver's Crime in America on his nightstand. Very interesting that Crime in America was on his nightstand and a very well written part book. I grew up in Wilkes Barre and I was floored when I found out one of Trafficante’s key guys was born there. Tons of family ties I keep encountering when I read a book for the second time. Bufalino, Marcello, The Detroit family, and Tampa were so intermingled. The old guys really knew how to run a tight ship. Is there somewhere available I can get ALL of the Kefauver transcripts??
