After yakking about Gotti, he says Scarfo wanted him (SG) to come through Joe Butch.
What's the meaning of that??

Gravano was the go-between for Gotti and Scarfo but Gotti wanted to use Joe Butch (Gambino Capo Joseph Corrao) instead.

Scarfo wasn't happy with that so he summoned Gravano to tell him he didn't like that and Scarfo even implied that if Gravano wanted to make a move against Gotti, Scarfo will support him.

That's my understanding.

Scarfo backed Gravano for a number of reasons, 1) Gravano had been Scarfos connections with the Gambino family since John Simone situation. 2) Castellano told Russo he was sending one of his best guys who can be trusted to Trenton, who turned out to be Gravano. 3) Gravano took care of Simone. 4) Gravano was liked by the Calabrian faction of the family since at least 1979, Scarfo did not meet Gravano till later. 5) Gravano had more respect and rep on the street and in the underworld than John Gotti did. 6) Gravano never messed with Philadelphia or tried to shake them down for more money in a deal, he was known to honor deals made. 7) Gravano was more levelheaded than Gotti. 8) Scarfo did not like a few of the things he was hearing about Joe Butch.

You hit the nail on the head buddy. Not only that but Scarfo was tight with the Chin and Bobby Manna(who was tasked with whacking John and Gene Gotti). So more than likely it was a plot to get Scarfo to get someone in john's inner circle like Gravano(who Scarfo is close to i.e. Johnny keyes hit) to give Johns timing,routine, location up so John could be whacked.

Had nothing to do with Joe Butch. Scarfo was aligned with Genovese Fam. The Genovese wanted to whack Gotti so they asked Scarfo who he knew in Gotti's circle to get to him. Scarfo knew Gravano and attempted to use that option. Gotti knew Gravano and Scarfo had a relationship and that's why he made the Philly Fam go through Joe Butch instead of Gravano. Gotti was an egomaniacal narcissist, but he was very smart in the ways of Cosa Nostra.

What ya'll are saying makes a lot of sense.It appears looking back for Gravano he would more than likely have made that move.Although a lot of Gotti's inner circle were being removed ( Ruggiero dying,Gene Gotti got hammered and Carneglia too,Lino killed,Borielo killed),it would have likely caused a major internal war.Had Decicco lived he and Gravano may have carried it out.But the Bergin crew were tough.It wouldn't be as smooth as the Castellano hit

Oh What the fuck.....Gravano killed Stillitano..& anybody else 4 the Gotti crew...but..Phil Leonetti was kinda close w/ Sammy...they done favors 4 each other..Sammy would've killed 4 Leonetti again if asked,,,They were on the same page...in a different world,,,, if Philip & Sammy had ruled BACK THEN .....things may have been diff. now.....If Scarfo had been eliminated like Phil really wanted in his heart .....Phil & Sal Testa would rule Phila. right now!!!!!!!
