Is anyone familiar with it? I came across an old New York Times story on 2 of it's members and it's amazing how counters like Thailand were granting bail and other nations not extraditing those charged to the United States. Were they really that big of a drug ring?

I can't find much on them, but this report has report out of Asia has them mentioned briefly. It's strange how over there they seem more concerned about gun trafficking than organized crime groups involved in human organ trafficking Yikes!!

The Times article I posted said they controlled most of the heroin going into California, this article on Khun Sa states he was charged by the U.S. Government with sending most of the heroin in to New York from 1970- 1980s. He was also portrayed in the movie American Gangster, which I don't remember.

He was the drug kingpin. Denzel travelled up river to see him and I think after they made the deal he called him "soul brother" or something like that. It's been some time since I watched the film, due for another screening.

The Times story made it sound like Li Yung Chung was his partner or the leader, but I think you are right. While I'm not familiar with the case I think being a military leader made Sa the top man. i'm wondering if he really met with the character Denzel was portraying, or if it was Hollywood fiction.
