For every guy who you'd consider semi-well heeled, there's at least twenty, thirty, who aren't. And it doesn't matter if the guy's a boss, capo, soldier, or associate.

Many of these guys don't make the kind of big money the public thinks to begin with, and the newspapers make them out to be. Then on top of that many have habits; women (comares), gambling, drugs, drinking, partying, high living, or all of the above. And the money just goes.

But every once in awhile along comes a guy who's a great earner, low key, without habits, and also has a little 'mozzle' as the saying goes. That's the guy who became a wealthy fella. Especially if he was lucky and savvy enough not to have served any significant time in the can.

They're out there, just not as commonplace as many would think.
