Well yeah they will still exist for sure, just without the same amount of membership and power. Organized crime thrives in a fast industrialized society where criminals can take advantage of the booming economy and infiltrate local businesses unless it`s a drug organization. Japan doesn`t have a big drug-using problem and the legal framework for protecting businesses is complete, more importantly, who would want to join the yakuza at this day and age? The majority of Yakuza members today are over 50 year old, just like in the states LCN members are getting older and older. There`s no future for being a gangster in Japan.

Japan does have a drug problem, just not in the sense you are thinking of. Yakuza is not going away, just its power and influence in many areas. Yep, they will adapt to tougher laws and go more underground, but yakuza will always be involved in Japan, there will always be outcasts in the performance-oriented Japanese society who can only make a name for themselves in the underworld. Difference with LCN they still have links to top politicians and business leaders.
