Years ago, there was a thousand different 'earns' and ways for mob guys to make money. It seemed that a new scheme, scam, or racket, was being invented every day. But no racket scheme was half as enjoyable for mafiosi and street guys, or generated the quick fast bucks, that credit card fraud generated.
While it lasted (over 4 decades), credit card thefts, and credit card counterfeiting, generated untold wealth for the borgatas.

Are you going to cover the Porn industry? That was a huge business as a kid in Times Square in the 70s it was like an sexual amusement park (not that participated other than the Peep show slots, I was very young, wide eyed and too scared! LOL). I sorta have an idea of those peep shows but not really. We're they all inside buildings or literally on the street? We're they all fronts for prostitution? Did she start with tits and as you paid more you saw more? Were they old washed up hooked, or what kind of chicks did this and what kind of money could they make? I'll have to dig out my DVD of the Basketball Diaries movie, I think that had a scene.

Peep Shows were inside buildings. They ran the gamut from simply vending machines types where you dropped a quarter and a film reel came up. You had to keep dropping quarters so the screen/wall wouldn't close on you. lol
Other types of peep shows were more "live action". you went into a booth, dropped your quarter and sat and watched lives girls dance and play with themselves in front of you. Again. You had to keep dropping those quarters or the window would close on you. Many a sucker pulled his pud while he watched the girls. Lol
And then course they sold magazines, tapes, pics, movies, sex toys, etc, etc. Live topless (and bottomless bars). Whorehouses, strip clubs, gay bars, etc. Never ending. If you can imagine it. They had it for you
It was (and is) big business. Sex sells. Always has. Always will!

Yep, for many years it was a billion dollar industry across the nation. The mob made tons (and so did a lot of other guys as well)

It is interesting to see how the mob is always one step ahead in these things. Even today banks factor in a percentage (and it’s not small beer) to cover the inevitable fraud on cards, most of which is OC They have to insert an extra fee I'm sure to maintain their profitability, but I wouldn't cry for the credit card companies. Lol. They are just as shifty as the mob used to be. They dangle the carrot of -0- percentage rate for the first year and then promise you a rate "most likely" between 9-14% annually. Once they have you (and have encouraged you to switch over all your debt to them because of the zero percent rate they're giving you) then they slam you with 18-26% interest rates (or more depending upon where you reside). It's a typical "bait and switch" racket. So in reality how much different are they from any other scammer or fraudster? And most consumers are then left with this massive invoice because they did in fact switch over all their debt to this company and end up paying "interest only" BS for the next hundred years! The big difference being that they do it under the guise of being a "legitimate" entity. Lol ......yeah, right!

Lol ......yeah, right! 18-26% APY is a lot better than a Shylock loan at between 78-156% annually....You should do something on the mob infiltration of payday loan places...those places are incredibly predatory.... And a lot of wiseguys are into them today through fronts especially in New York and Fla. like they used to be into the Pawn Shop businesses in the 90s and early 2000s
