Tonight, Jussie Smollett can rest knowing that his attacker has been convicted.

He faced six counts of disorderly conduct under a subsection of the law that prohibits false reports to police. Some states don’t categorize false police reports as disorderly conduct.

The charges were listed as class 4 felonies, which are among the least serious felonies in Illinois. But convictions can still carry potential prison time of up to three years.

Although Smollett was found guilty Thursday of five of the six counts, his lack of criminal history and the fact that no one was seriously hurt make actual time behind bars unlikely. It’s more likely that a judge would sentence him to probation and perhaps order him to perform community service.


Based on Smollett's conviction and based on his testimony in his trial, many are bringing up the possibility that he may now face perjury charges...

In Illinois, perjury is a Class 3 felony. It is punishable by: Up to five years in prison; and. A fine of up to $25,000.

Unfortunately, he won't serve a day behind bars. If you or I did it, we'd serve the entire 3 years.

You might be right. I don't believe he has any priors, but he should at least do a few months. I don't wish prison on anybody though. I'm just glad his career is over.

Just consider the cost to society from this over-privileged a-hole:

According to Businessinsider, he was making as much as $165k per episode on that TV show. That comes to almost $3 million annually, But, that wasn't enough for him. So, he staged this fake attack to generate publicity, "sympathy," and to get a big raise. Since he's a "celebrity," Chicago PD had to divert resources in that crime-ridden city to find his "attackers," at the expense of real victims of street violence--so many of whom are black. Then he went to trial instead of admitting his fraud--more money and resources diverted. Now he's appealing, drawing on more public resources. He can afford it.

As always, there are two kinds of "justice" in America--for the rich, and for everyone else.

In the future they will make a movie about this. He will be the one telling the truth, and the people against him will be portrayed as racists involved in a frame up. His lie was so obvious, yet he has BLM and others backing him. When he is sentanced I wonder if riots will break out.

Unfortunately, you're right. He's in too deep now that he can't go back and say it was a hoax. He has to double down and say it was real.

I wonder how tough his sentence will be? I bet that on sentencing day the protesters will be packed deep around the courthouse.

My prediction is no jail time. Slap on the wrist, community service, probation, blah blah blah.

Very possible. He must know it too. His community service will probably be going around to lecture people on what it was like to be a hate crime victim.
