I didn't watch the Oscars, but I am aware of and saw the video of Will Smith striking Chris Rock.
I've always thought highly of Will Smith because he seems to be a good father and husband, and is a religious man. No more.
Unattenuated, his conduct is reprehensible; to do it on national television in this day and age when violence is plaguing our cities, his conduct was just plain stupid.
"Generosity. That was my first mistake." "Experience must be our only guide; reason may mislead us." "Instagram is Twitter for people who can't read."
I'm not a fan of Will or Jada. I've been hearing negative stories about them for years, but I believe the root of Will's problems is Jada. After all, this is a woman who emasculated her husband by having sex with their son's friend for a full year
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
I watched this live and have always had a soft spot for Will Smith, going as far back as THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR. However, he was completely out of line last night and I applaud Chris Rock, who I don't believe people are giving enough credit to, for holding his composure.
Otherwise, not surprised in the least that "diversity" won out last night. Haven't seen CODA but was rooting for THE POWER OF THE DOG in the Best Picture category. Jane Campion I was fine with winning Best Director. Best Actor I felt Benedict Cumberbatch got robbed of (same with Nicole Kidman for BEING THE RICARDOS). But not at all disappointed Jessica Chastain won! Best supporting categories were both weak but for the men, I was pulling for J.K Simmons and for the women, I didn't have a horse in the race.
Consider yourself lucky Irish. I have to live in this town. All this wokeness garbage and diversity propaganda has almost driven me insane. I have friends who think Will was in the right. Just unbelievable. Rock handled that situation like a boss.

I'll light a candle for you this weekend at church my friend for having to live there. Never been myself but I can only imagine. Funny how last nights talking points were "trans rights" and "Ukraine." Suddenly, everyone's silent about the goingsons inside of the White House. Convenient.

The climate is the best ever and there's plenty of nice people here, but we certainly have major problems as well. It is what it is I guess. I try not to let peoples politics get to me. It's very challenging at times, but I do think most people are essentially good people. They just aren't always seeing the whole picture

I heard a rumor the Academy could take away his Oscar but that's not going to happen. He's apologized for it and a week from now, it'll be another non-story and everyone will have moved on from it.
I could not care less about his apology. A white man would be in cuffs right now
Amy thought were similar, I think if the slapper had been White the outrage against him would be off the charts. The crowd would have booed, instead they were silent. He would have been escorted out, and social media would have been calling for bans on all his movies. A White guy slapping Chris Rock would never be hired again. I think by the end of the year we'll see photos of them hugging, and maybe even working together on project. Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry went over to Smith after his cursing outburst, and talked him into calming down. If the attacker had been White, they would be screaming for his head.

“Things unfolded in a way we could not have anticipated,” the academy said. “While we would like to clarify that Mr. Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize we could have handled the situation differently.”
A representative for the academy declined to give specifics on how it tried to removed Smith.
The academy said Smith has the opportunity to defend himself in a written response before the board meets again on April 18.
AMPAS also could contact other parties related to the incident – but Rock won’t be asked to participate. Another topic is whether the police will be involved. The Academy could decide to press charges against Smith, even though Rock declined to do file a police report after being contacted by the LAPD on Sunday night.
With Smith looking at up to six months in jail and a $100,000 fine if found guilty on a misdemeanor charge of assault, Rock actor has up to six months from Sunday’s slapping to change his mind on filing a police report.
4:12 PM PT -- Sources who were present at the Oscars tell TMZ, the 2 Academy officials who told Will Smith to leave were David Rubin, the President of the Academy, and Dawn Hudson, the CEO. We're told they were "furious" at Will, and there was plenty of "yelling" and "heated conversations" backstage with Will's reps after the incident. As one source put it, the Academy officials were "apoplectic." We're also told they told him to leave shortly after the slap.
Will Smith sticking around at the Oscars, after slapping Chris Rock, is NOT what the Academy wanted -- but he dug in his heels when they tried to give him the boot.
That's the new startling claim from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which fired off a letter Wednesday.
In the letter they write ... "Things unfolded in a way we could not have anticipated. While we would like to clarify that Mr. Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize we could have handled the situation differently."
They said in the weeks leading top to the show that the security would be top of the line, in case of any violence, protests, or anything. Then they could don't get Will Smith to leave. Yes, great security. Hollywood is full of idiots who want to tell us how to live, but cannot function themselves. Just a few years ago they gave out an award to the wrong person, then took a long time after realizing it to fix the issue.
Will Smith is in an open marriage, on his wife's request. His wife has sex with other men, yet he tolerates it. I guess if Chris Rock had asked in front of him for sex, Will Smith would have let it pass, but a joke set him off.
The Academy will weigh in on this on April 18th. They will decide punishment, and none of that punishment will be on Chris Rock, no matter what anyone thinks.
Will Smith's wife is a Public Figure in her own right. Will Smith was trying to have it both ways, trying to have his cake and eat it too. He'll soon find out how wrong he was on April 18th, the Day after Resurrection Sunday. But it's not Will's standing with the Academy that will have been resurrected.
I like some of Will's movies, generally not the Blockbuster ones. I will still watch them regardless of what the Academy does in a little over 2 weeks...
As for Chris Rock, I saw him on SNL awhile back, and I though that he was flat. He had lost his edge. To me, Dave Chappelle is funnier.
If the person assaulted does not want to press charges, the the Police generally will not. The exception is domestic violence, where, even if the assaulted is begging the Police to not arrest the batterer, the Police will arrest regardless.
The Academy chose to go with Chris Rock's wishes, whatever that was. I suppose if Will Smith had knocked out Chris cold, then Chris would not have been able to give his opinion on whether to let Will Smith stay, or be arrested.
I do find it odd, that the Academy seemed to only have one of two options in mind, 1- Will stays, or 2- Will is removed and arrested.
What about option 3- Will is removed, without being arrested??? Will's offense was not just against Mr. Chris Rock, but against the viewers and the attendees. The Academy had every right to remove Smith, for that alone. But they didn't.
The Academy has already released a statement saying that Will was asked to leave, but that he refused. They apparently never considered forcibly removing him. To add to the confusion, one of the show's producers claims he told Will he could stay. Haha I think they were running around like headless chickens doing nothing but embarrassing themselves.
I never liked Will Smith. I used to like Jada way back in Set It Off days, but that woman is somebody else today.
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
To think he is supposed to be a role model for our children.
It’s obvious that Smiths twisted mind has landed him between reality and dramatic episodes that have folded into the same delusions Jussie Smollet suffers. At least this only falls to the foolish and ignorant who find this entertaining and not a complete slap in the face of society like Jussie who was interested in causing harsh devisions throughout all.
