I put up a very old SNL sketch. Here it is, I took it down because I did not know if any Italians would be offended at the portrayal. I hope others find it funny, I thought Gilbert was great in it. When he gets started with "Why did the moron throw the clock out the window, I could not stop laughing.
I wish SNL and others were funny like it seems to have been back then. I occasionally try to watch, but can't stay interested for more than a few minutes. Piscopo and Gottfired were great together.
I was at an event years ago with several celebrity bar tender and Gilbert was one of them.
He got such a kick out of the small group of guys I was with , he stole us from one of the other bartenders, I think the guy was Shooter McGavin from a golf movie, he insisted we sit with him and GG even joined us at our table for dinner, we were all bombed, including Gilbert.
He was talking normal when in our small group but when a larger group of people were around he went into character.
Great guy, only knew him for that one evening but we all felt like he was one of us and he did too.
Thank you for sharing that story Dues. I've heard Gilbert was very down to earth and preferred the company of the common folk over the Hollywood crowd. Oh how I wish Gilbert had lived to be a 105. We needed that fucking guy lol
But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away
