Welcome aboard Sally!!! Sorry to say I know very few words in Italian, but there are a few here who do know it. Enjoy the board! TIS

Welcome, good luck with your Italian. I took a few classes once but drifted away from it.
Have fun. Doc
And you liar, teller of tall tales: you trample all the Lord's commandments underfoot, you murder, steal, commit adultery, and afterward break into tears, beat your breast, take down your guitar and turn sin into a song. Shrewd devil, you know very well that God pardons singers no matter what they do, because he can simply die for a song.

thank you all for the warm welcome. i was not an active member here as my english wasnt so good (still isnt). but this time i promise i'll be as much talkative as i can . forgive me, i forgot to introduce myself in my previous post. my name is metin. a 25 years old turkish guy, anarchist, agnostic, worker doing digital printing, living in istanbul. i'm addicted to the godfather and i re-watch it over and over. especially i love the first part of the trilogy. well, in the course of time you'll know me closer i hope and i think i'll find a second home in this site. as i said my english is not good. now you might ask why i'm willing to learn anotehr foreign language while i havent done a good job on one. well, i dont know. the beauty of the words in italian attracts me so much and it has a fantastic pronounciation. also i was once told that if i learn it alittle, it will enrich my english as well since the english vocabulary has derived a vast part of it from latin which is the root of italian. by the way, i already knew the words "centanni" and "pezzonovante" but maddonna ah shit...lol

"Marone" (as said in Brooklyn) is the same as "Madonna", and the literal translation would be "Mary, mother of God". Its used to exclaim surprise or amazement. For instance, you go to buy a loaf of bread and the baker tells you it costs $20. You might say, "Marone", and you might be thinking, "Oh shit", but its literally, "Mother of God" (as if implying disbelief).
